Term time only childcare - how do they cope when they go back?

My DS is nearly 15MO. He started nursery at 11MO. It took him a couple of months until he was completely settled. It is now the summer holidays and as I'm a teacher he is home with me for the summer. He has the odd day in nursery during the holidays so he doesn't completely forget what it is like. However, we are going away a couple of times (just visiting family, nothing exotic!) so he won't be there every week.

Will he take ages to settle again in September?

It really depends on the child.

Going a few times during the holidays often helps.

Ours never went in the hols as we're both teachers & were happy to keep them home. Both were fine going back.

Childminder: it totally depends on the child. Some it resets and you have to settle them again after every holiday. Some are fine when they're little but it unsettles them later. Keep talking positively about nursery and the people there, show photos etc and that should help

Our nursery closes for a couple of weeks in the summer and at Christmas and DS has always taken a while to settle back but he's always got there eventually

Term time only childminder here! The older ones settle back in fine. The younger ones can take a week after the longer breaks (I find Christmas the worst for resettling as most of the family have been off at home with the children) the younger ones who I have had since 6 months tend to come back as though they have never been away. I make a point of meeting each one for a play in the park with their parents at some point in the summer holiday so it's not quite so long
