Hi, First post here. We are moving to Headington in August with a 5 year old and 3 year old. The 5 year old will be in school till 3pm and my 3 year old will be in nursery till then. Is it common to get a childminder to pickup the kids (5mins from the house) and mind them in our house or theirs till 5pm? If so what is a typical cost for this and where would the best place be to advertise or locate a person who could do this? Any advice would be great.

Hello! Just wondering if you managed to find a childminder in the area? And also if you found a nursery for your 3yo? I am moving to headington with my 1 and 3 year old in November and trying to figure out childcare for 2023. Would be great to chat about how you've been finding it there :)

Use childcare.co.uk to find childminders in your area x

Are either are you HCPs? If so both hospitals have nurseries.
Child minders pick up and look after children in their own home. Cheaper as they have multiple children .
A nanny would pick up and look after the child in the child’s home.

Hi, we sent our child to Quarry Foundation School Nursery which I couldn't recommend enough. They offer all day childcare which has been great so haven't gone down the childminder/nanny route.

For HCP has anyone come across of 'emergency' childcare options when children can't attend nursery due to iĺlness?

Thanks all! We’ve contacted loads of settings and childminders, just looking for personal recommendations as we don’t know anyone in the area. We already send our 2 children to nursery in London, but we are moving to Headington at the end of this year.

Thank you for the recommendation apples85, I really like the concept of a quarry foundation school, it’s likely our 3yo will be starting there in January. Still not having much luck with spaces for our 1yo but on plenty of waiting lists.

We are not HCP’s and I’ve never managed to find emergency childcare when they are sick. It’s probably the hardest thing to manage when working full time with kids in nursery.
