CM CLUB: Which CAR SEAT?????

looneytune · 16/01/2008 12:27

Right, I've seen people mention having proper 4 point harness car seats SAFELY in a seat using just a lap belt. Is this right or did I imagine it???

I always thought my wasted seat was just tough as not safe enough to use for childminding HOWEVER I would like to know more and IF I can safely get a car seat in that middle seat with a lapbelt, I'd be one very happy childminder

So, enlighten me please ladies

I might be doing something really wrong that I never knew about, but my big car seat actually fits better on the lap belt. Much firmer fit and certainly doesn't move around. Its a Britax Clubclass. I don't think its called that anymore tbh, but I'm sure its fine. (I hope anyway!)

Well if it doesn't wobble you should be fine. I tried one of mine and it was no good but I'll go out now and try my maxi cosy and see how that works

My maxicosi works on a lap belt. I have a red clip off a old car seat that you actually put on th eseat belt,'I use that as a extra 'lock' on it.

Yippeeeeeeeeee Maxi Cosi fits PERFECT. They do secure a lot better than the other one I have so it's absolutely fine Just need to buy another car seat for the back and maybe another booster if I get this one who came last night. Then I'll have the 3 under 5 seats and 3 booster seats so shouldn't need to buy any more for a while

Shosh - not sure what you mean buy the red clip but my lap belt does have a clip thing built in which once at tightest, I pushed to the bottom, does that sound like same sort of thing?

yes mine were off a nania seat that i dont use ant more you tighten the bely then lock the clip tight on it so that the belt cant loosen.

Cool, I'm all sorted then I'm soooo chuffed, I can fill all vacancies without having to worry about the car now

I have done exactly the same LT (great to still see you on here btw!), was planning ahead to when I have newborn of my own, plus 12 month old plus 3 year old and thinking none of them can go in the front of my air-bagged Zafira and with lap-belt in middle of back seat there seemed no option but to have one of the very back seats up for eg the 3 year old, hassle getting in and out etc. Then a mum of twins and older sibling mentioned to me she'd had exactly the same problem but that Britax and Maxi-cosi do car seats suitable for lap-belts! Found a Britax one on kiddicare for £60 - much cheaper than buying a newer Zafira that would have 3 point seat belt in middle of back seat!

How are you doing pregnancy wise? When are you due again? I did see ages ago but have forgotten, sorry! I've got 8 weeks to go, and counting!
