Can anyone please tell me how I find out about the EYFS training that i need to do? I've looked on the Surestart website and can't find anything on there!
I'm sure it's very simple but not to me!! ;)
Thanks

Phone your local CIS, they may have details about the course. Does your Erly years team send out booklet every 3-4 months with training course details? That's where I found the details for the course I did.

southernbelle77 · 15/01/2008 14:08

Thanks henni will do that. I think I might get a booklet but not sure I know what it is . God I am so rubbish!
Thanks everyone for all your help.

I got details from local NCMA office if you're a member of them? Costs nothing either apart from petrol to get to venue! We have a local authority training manual directory, but all courses seemed geared to nursery staff and cost ££££. I wait for NCMA courses to be available and do them.

southernbelle77 · 15/01/2008 14:55

Oh thank you AABP! Will give the NCMA a call and see if they have anything then!

Do I need to do it through anyone in particular to get the £200 grant?! That would really come in very handy!

Have called CIS and they had some briefing sessions but none that I can get on. They are hopeful there will be some more. They have however given me a number to call to talk to the local childcare person to ask their advice.
Got a couple of Surestart numbers but it's too late to call now (they are in schools) so will call them tomorrow.
Is there a proper course I need to do or is it just the briefing?!

Hi
I live in West Sussex & the main training is being rolled out from the end of this term & into next. You will get a newsletter from the childminding team giving you all the details. Which area are you in? I am in Horsham & you are welcome to contact me for a chat if you want.

ROSEgarden · 15/01/2008 16:30

SB77, i think the £200 is a local incentive?, maybe not all council's will offer it?..tbh i bet our wish they hadnt!, there were 100's of childminders in that room last saturday..theyre looking at 100's of pounds!, bet they didnt expect such a good turnout!

Mum2Luke · 15/01/2008 20:34

I think if they want us to do the training, THEY (being OFSTED) should give all of us funding, why should we shell out to pay for courses?

I've just got my training manual and theres not one single course, apart from 1st Aid, Child protection (which I've already done) and an EYFS briefing which again I've already done thats in the evening. It states 'all childminders are welcome to come' but they are all day sessions and finsih at 4, we have nursery drop-offs and children who come at different times so we have not any chance of going.

The childminder courses are usually free unlees you don't turn up on the night and then you have to pay £175, you don't pay if you ring to tell them you have an emergency/broken down on way.

We just did the EYFS providing firm foundations for your under-5's course, and got PAID £40 to do it !!!
