to enquire with candidates we aren't offering the nanny job to, whether they would be interested babysitting time? I have met a couple I would like to stay in touch with on a more casual basis - we often have issues finding sitters - who just don't have quite enough experience to take on a 30 hour a week sole charge role. It's not that I feel they would be utterly incompetent it's just that they mostly haven't done whole days caring (more like school runs either side of the day) or have only ever really been supervised (mum around most of hte time) or are just a BIT too young. They would be fine for an evening or the odd weekend we needed some help for a few hours.

We've actually been surprisingly lucky this time and have had several candidates who live quite near us reply and also a much higher quality pool of applicant than last time.

Not really - I've had that in the past. Most will probably welcome the income, the experience and (if you're prepared to give them one) the reference if the reason you're not offering them the job is age/lack of experience.

Hi Harriet
Can I ask where you found your best candidates we're still looking (I think we need to make more effort!), I don't know if your in our neck of the woods we're looking ofr before and after school care actually.
To answer your question the people we've had and turned down/they turned us down have all said they were happy to babysit

We're in East London, zone four on the Central Line heading out towards Essex. They were all from Gumtree.

Where are you based? A few wouldn't mind travelling.

have never been turned down for a job

(I have turned down a fair few families though ) may of the families i have turned down i would be hapy to baby sit for (and often do babysit for)

all you can do is ask. If im free and not doing anything better im happy to babysit for anyone (with nice children obviously )

SW near the place with the eponymous popular front!! SO I suspect we're too far, shame from my gumtree reading SW is a before and after school care free zone (NW seems to be the best place to look actually)
I'm wating for a reply froma couple of people so we shall see.
