4yr old will be at school when babt comes in sept so you can still have 2 mindees and depening on how you feel you only need to have a few weeks off

not sure bout mat pay have you been working before (paying nat insurance)?

got 2 pg childminders who come here often they will help more but really dont worry go and give your dh a lovely cuddle and work your womenly charm and tell him, its never a good time to have a baby

josben · 13/01/2008 01:10

okay, I've been where you are. 2 years ago, last nov 2005 i found out i was pregnant, i had 2 DS's aged 2 and 3 and had just started childminding and i had a nightmare worrying about how i would tell my mindee how i was pregnant - especially as i didn't want to continue to childminding after i had had my 3rd baby - but it was fine and they were actually lovely about it all... I now have a beautiful 1 year old DD.

AND luckily on a money perspective I found out that I had paid enough n i contibutions to qualify for statutory maternity pay - please ring your benefits office and get the low down on your entitlement as it could make a massive difference. Hope this helps

Hi there. I'm a childminder and am 17 weeks pregnant. Self-employed aren't entitled to SMP (unless employed aswell maybe), we get MA (Maternity Allowance) instead. Here is a link about it. You have to be paying class 2 National Insurance which I presume you are if you're already childminding? Have a look at the link for full details.

And don't panic too much. IF you are entitled to MA, you get £112.75 or 90% of your average weekly earnings (before tax), whichever is the smaller, per week. I personally need my full income for as long as possible so am taking 12 weeks off in total. I am currently trying to save some of my earnings each month to give me a bit more each month when I'm off.

Don't worry, things will work out for you, they always do. We're totally skint too and dh was made redundant AGAIN just before Christmas so we have the added worry of whether or not dh will be earning when baby arrives! BUT.....I just know things will work out, they have to

Good luck and ask any questions if you have them x

looneytune · 13/01/2008 08:53

p.s. my ds is 5 in March - I reckon it's a nice age gap

crace · 13/01/2008 09:50

What LT said - Am also taking 12 weeks off. As looneytone said it will work out, we had a bit of a panic but... it will pan out. In my case I lose one space but I will be asking for a variation.

Congratulations!

shoshe · 13/01/2008 10:40

Robin why are you saying you have a 4 yead old when other times you say you have a 6 month old? Also you said at Christmas you were 6 months pg when you were looking for a name (Arabella) now you are asking how to start up as a CM, then saying you already have a mindee and just found out you are PG, and how to claim Maternity benefit???

Sorry but something dosnt add up.

looneytune · 13/01/2008 10:43

I know, I realised after I posted too and it's all a bit odd

MaureenMLove · 13/01/2008 10:46

Eh?

shoshe · 13/01/2008 10:58

I was reading the Op then realised she had outed herself, had a quick search to see why she was saying she was a cm then not and found all sorts of odd things Mo.

babiesrangels · 13/01/2008 11:03

sorry my postings are as confused as my mind
i have a nearly 7 month old and just recently had a mc,was only just pg
said to dh we would wait a while but fell pregnant again

well i was just trying to get cm tips and didnt want to give my situation away do not have a 4 year old too, didnt want anyone that knows me to identify me iykwim?
sorry for all my confusion im a bit of a mess as you can tell

OP posts:
shoshe · 13/01/2008 11:10

yep, you had us very confused!

looneytune · 13/01/2008 11:16

I'm sorry about your mc, just really confusing as some posts in the last few months say you want twins next, other says you may want an only child, another says you were 6 months preg or certainly read that way but yes, I can understand you changing the age to hide identity. Just you've asked on other threads about jobs etc. which is why I personally wasn't sure if you were actually childminding yet?

dmo · 13/01/2008 14:07

you lot should give up the childminding and become csi

shoshe · 13/01/2008 14:18

Sorry didn't mean to be horrible, just was a tad confused, and was a bit worried it was a someone trying to work out how to claim MB fraudlently.

looneytune · 13/01/2008 14:21

Same as shosh though, just didn't make sense and I also thought the same about MA
