Cloth nappy question for childminders please

I am looking at finding a childminder to look after my son when I go back to work at the end of Feb and was wondering if his cloth nappies will be a problem.
DS has been in cloth since he was little and I really don't want to give this up.
Do those of you who childmind have any little ones in cloth?
If you had a parent approach you to look after their child in cloth nappies would this put you off looking after them?
I would be grateful to get your opinions on this.
P.S am looking for a childminder in the Hampshire area so am keeping my eyes peeled on this thread

HI ejay, most CM I would think would take children in cloth nappies, I know I have, and never had any probs with them ( but then DS is old enough that there wasn't any thing like disposables around, and cloth were just squares and plastic pants when he was born)

I want my children in cloth

My parents won't

I think cloth is fab

I'm sure you will find a nice C/Mer who will do cloth

Hi as a nanny, I care for children in cloth nappies - though being a nanny I don't get a choice in that! Local childminders I know, don't seem to mind cloth nappies/wraps - though they would expect parent to collect them each day - I expect most minders would not wash them.

What part of Hampshire?

KatyMac · 02/01/2008 21:29

Goodness no - i wouldn't wash them (well I might but I'd charge loads then make DH do the work)

MaureenMLove · 02/01/2008 21:30

Any childminder worth her salt will take your lo and agree to your wishes. I would anyway. Its my job to work with the parents and I wouldn't think twice about it.

Pity I'm not down in Hampshire, I would gladly mind a little one in cloth nappies, I did have my eldest (now 17) in terries as he was allergic to disposables. I did try cloth ones (I think they were called Kooshies and had velcro fastening).

The only problems is changing while out but its a case of getting used to them, they have a liner like a Terry which catches the wet and some poo. They are also better for the planet too.

I hope you find a cm, unfortunately I live near manchester otherwise I'd help out!

I have my lo's in cloth and I have also childminded lo's in cloth nappies as well. I prefer them as they do not fill my bin!!

I had a nappy bucket with milton in for the mindee along side my own, and it came every day clean and left with however many needed to be added through the day.

I did use differet nappies to mum (I use bambino mio and mum used nappies that had sewn in pads) which sort of meant that you had more to take home, but never a problem for me.

ejayjay · 03/01/2008 14:53

Thanks for all your replies i'm glad cloth nappies aren't too unpopular with the childminders out there.
I certainly wouldn't expect a childminder to wash I would pick up dirties each day and drop clean off.
I live in Aldershot so anyone with vacancies in Feb in this area I would love to hear from you (my LO will be 10 months old)

my first mindee was a cloth nappy wearer i didn't have a problem with it BUT it took a little getting used to as my own were in disposables

nannynick · 03/01/2008 22:22

Ejay, many years back I used to live in Aldershot, still in the general North Hants / West Surrey area. If I hear of any childminders in aldershot with vacancies will let you know. Meanwhile, Hantsfish, Hampshire Children's Information Service 0845 602 1125, and Childcare Link will provide details on Aldershot childminders who have vacancies.

Thanks nannynick I have looked on childcare link but not Hantsfish so will give that a try.
It's good to know saff that you have mindees in cloth near me.

We're in Fleet, Hants and our CM is fine with DD in cloth (and she has had others). I send enough for day along with wet-bag for putting the dirty ones in. We use popper pocket style for CM (Wonderoos, Fuzzis etc) as easiest. Do send a couple of disps in bag as backup just in case, but rarely get used.
