Oh and coming back to original thread I will be cleaning my room, fridge and bathroom on last day off before leaving!

Whooosh · 18/12/2007 22:24

So I will add to petty-our nanny has left her room pretty clean and tidy-I asked her if it was OK if the odd friend or relative used her room while she is away (for a Month!) to be met with "well as long as my sheets are clean when I get back! .

She had about £150 worth of presents plus 10 days salary in cash, plus photo in fram of dd-not so much as a thank you when opening or text since.
Think I am most mad that she didn't even leave dd a card....grrrrr.

weathershore · 18/12/2007 22:27

yucky whats wrong with clearing them asp not very pleasent for anyone.
I managed to fall down the stairs today the lower stairs have stuff on them waiting to go upstairs table at the bottom of the stairs blocking some of the stairs family shoes all over the place and a big box of decorations at the bottom. My ankle is killing me gutted as i wanted to go to the gym this evening.

MightyMoosh · 18/12/2007 22:38

Poor you, its the little stuff that gets you down!

Whoosh- I wouldnt mind anyone using my room, Id not say about sheets but would grit my teeth as I left. mum of family put used towels back in cupboard (I bought my own after finding out!) and I heard her wondering if sheets were clean in spare room
for maternity nurse, then just leave them! Id change them if unsure! Its the other shitty stuff that paints a pic of your nanny, I got gifts for kiddies birthdays and will for xmas.

Whooosh · 18/12/2007 22:44

She knows that we are clean freaks in this house so the chances of her being left with dirty sheets were about the same as us winning the lottery every week she was away [hopeful emoticon]

It is the little things though,we knew she was going to be away for 3wks at Xmas and it wasn't until 6wks before she went and I asked for firm dates I found out she was going for a month. This was "because the price of flights goes up on the 12th December"-no discussion with us whatsoever but we could hardly stop her.

I could go on with a long list but at the end of the day she loves DD and DD loves her,I trust her and I think those two things combined make up for a hell of the little things.SHe is also tidy and doesn't smell

MightyMoosh · 18/12/2007 22:47

Oh yes a nice smelling employee is good, even if they are inconsiderate! Begining to think Im brilliant, family im with having difficulty finding the housekeeper to replace me so Im coming back to help, dont need to money-wise, sooner be home in Newquay till new job, but was met with well as soon as you can be back! Im staying home at least two weeks, damit. Im great, me.

missiesparkles · 18/12/2007 23:02

I must admit, I am a terribly untidy individual, but then I wouldn't dream of inflicting my inability to keep my things tidy on anyone so, I wouldn't be a live in nanny, simple as really. however, if I was to be a live in anny, I certainly wouldn't leave food and fag ends etc etc in my room, just general mess

I wish to point out that I can tidy when I'm at work but as for my own stuff - nah! and I second whoever said that the last thing you thing about after a 12 hour day is tidying!!

weathershore · 18/12/2007 23:07

you sound so happy. so nice to be wanted
I love my job so yes i might moan about the mess but really i know other famlies who i just would not work for at all. Yes i hurt my ankle but it was a accident and they moved stuff after i had finished work.
Call me werid but i am home for two weeks and am really looking forward to cleaning it from top to bottom not that it needs it

paros · 18/12/2007 23:10

I do an 11 hr day and a 45min drive to work and 45mins back and I still have to clean my own house and do my familys washing ,and shopping .

missiesparkles · 18/12/2007 23:53

I'm sure you do, however my point was I can't be bothered.

maybe my morals/outlook/need to give a damn will change once I have a family, however right now, when I've worked a 12 hour day, I can't be bothered, I'm sorry but I can't.

so shoot me

paros · 19/12/2007 07:14

fair enough . I used to be a live in nanny and things certainly changed when I had my own family, I now do daily (nannying for 24 years now and boy have I seen some changes ) My 1st job as a mothers help was 40 pounds a week and one weekend off a month . LOL

jINGLESbells · 19/12/2007 08:16

But surely the point is the thoughtlessness?! If my AP wants to live in a tip that's fine as long as it doesn't affect me....but she would never in a million years think it's ok for her parents to come and visit and stay in that!!!! I'm quite anal I admit,..but I would also never want my host mother (if I was an AP) riffling through my stuff and cleaning it away. God I've already got 2 kids (and a step son) I don't need any more to clean up after!

I am counting blessings because current (live-out) nanny is forever lobbing in my laundry with the kids ("To make up the load" she says, though reality is that she knows how little time I have myself), every time I come home the dishwasher is on and the kitchen spotless (even if I didn't - ahem - leave it that way in the morning rush. Havign read this thread heaven knows how I will cope if I get an untidy one next time, or one who gets upset at stuff left at bottom of stairs waiting to go up (weathershore you made me blush beetroot with your post - that is our house all over).

Have hatched secret plan to destroy nanny's love interest with Mancunian and thus prevent her deserting me next year. First round is utterly breathtakingly fabulous xmas present. Let's hope rancid spotty cheshire geek (well actually, he's quite a pleasant rugger man) can't compete. Have bought a voodoo kit for round 2. Round 3 may involve 'burlesque dancers', which appear to be all the rage in Manchester at the mo. All other suggestions of how to keep her welcome, short of offering up my husband as a replacement for her (mind you, come to think about it.....could be a good deal)

GloriaInEleusis · 19/12/2007 12:49

Yea!!!! She cleaned her room! yippee.

MrsRecycle · 19/12/2007 12:54

does that mean I can stay tonight ele?

GloriaInEleusis · 19/12/2007 12:57

Oh, are we still on for tonight? I wasn't sure if you had recovered.

missiesparkles · 19/12/2007 16:34

that was my point jINGLESbells - I wouldn't dream of inflicting my untidyness on anyone, so I think the AP was being out of order if she knew family was coming to stay - maybe I didn't make that clear

christmas stress, blah blah blah LOL

MightyMoosh · 19/12/2007 20:51

Day off tomorow, apart from xmas shopping all Im doing is tidying and packing. Although I am now returning to this job for a bit in jan, before new job starts, so I can leave stuff here but will be packing it up in case someone want to stay.

MrsRecycle · 21/12/2007 10:01

Well my AP left yesterday afternoon and she left her bed with freshly laundered bedding on it and the room is spotless. Oh I love her - shame she's only back for 3 weeks and then gone.

jINGLESbells · 21/12/2007 12:44

I want your AP Mrs Recycle!!.. Have now discovered AP has lost petrol cap from her car and changed a punctured tyre and not told me! Serious words will be had in January!

Aw welldone Mighty! That's the awful thing about working for people when they're a bit... all over the place, they say things they're not 100% sure about. Oh well I'm sure your new flat and family will be lovely, imagine, you can have so much freedom....!

Jura glad to hear you're sorted for a temp as well.

I got fired for not putting Shampoo bottles back in the right place, but I've heard on the nannyvine about Mum's awful time at work (she is about 10 years too old to be doing the job she does, half the girls are retired by MY age let alone hers) lack of money, Dad being ill at home for the next few months...... just seems like they don't need a nanny eh?
At least I'm sorted for Jan too.
Merry Christmas everyone!

(PS this kind of thread is great because as a nanny, I like to know what to avoid. Putting shampoo bottles on my mental ticklist for future ref: MUST BE IN STRAIGHT LINE ON SIDE OF BATH )

mananny · 22/12/2007 16:39

i used to have to line towels up a la Sleeping with the Enemy. They all had to be the right way, in a straight line across the rail. Jeeeez. Mind you this was also the same family who wouldn't let their children eat anything that might stain the white linen tablecloth. Plus I had to buy new pristine white undies for the little girl from Petit Pateau every month as the mother didn't want her wearing even slightly off-colour undies. The whole house was white and sterile and we couldn't paint or crayon or make any kind of mess. Nightmare.

MightyMoosh · 22/12/2007 19:52

nifty- freedom yes! seperate entrance BUT video thingy to open gate! from my flat! much smaller bathroom (no bath) but still... Also had a job where was severly told off for not folding towels and dishcloths corner to corner- not I always bloody do it,habit!- and not ironing babies bedclothes and pillow cover.

mananny- that sound so damn horrible! I like to make a mess! And how will those kiddies turn out~? more money than sense!

I went for an interview recently where there was no sign at all there were children in the house. 3y and 6m girls, no sign at all. so said no to agency! know all I'd do there is clean!
