Nannies with two mobile phones

I've noticed all the nannies we use carry two separate mobile phones? Is this normal practice?

Wondering why they wouldn't just have one phone...

Presumably one supplied by the family and their personal use one.

MichelleScarn · 05/11/2021 11:45

Personal and work mobiles like lots of people?

Maryann1975 · 05/11/2021 11:51

I know childminders who have work phones and personal phones. It isn’t a requirement to do so, they’ve just got fed up of being contacted when they aren’t working- 10pm on a Friday Evening or 8am on a Sunday are not convenient tones to message your childcare provider to discuss non urgent matters. Turn the work phone off when they aren’t working.

Maybe it’s similar for nannies?

cantgetmyheadroundit · 05/11/2021 11:52

What a weird question. It's pretty obvious that one is for work and one is personal. Loads of people have a work phone Confused

Personal and work?

girlmom21 · 05/11/2021 11:59

Ones for their sideline... best you don't ask...

Seems a fairly normal and commonplace thing to do
SparrowNest · 05/11/2021 12:08

Work phone that they can turn off when they’re not working, the same as people do with all sorts of jobs.

sillysmiles · 05/11/2021 12:27

@londonparent321 why would you think that nannies want to be contacted about work outside work hours?

Zarene · 05/11/2021 12:34

Reminds me of the poster a few weeks ago who was upset with her nanny for not texting at the weekend to see how the kids were.

Eltonsglasses · 05/11/2021 12:43

What's your sample size? How many nannies have you had? Are they all from an agency who may provide work phones?

Summerfun54321 · 05/11/2021 15:09

Ones a burner phone for their drugs hustle obviously 😂

SirensofTitan · 05/11/2021 15:15

I'm not a nanny but I do have phones, one for work and one personal, I assume that it's pretty obvious to anyone who gives it a moment's thought why that would be

verymiddleaged · 05/11/2021 15:42

I'm not a nanny but have had two phones.
One for work, switched on while at work and just before. Only look at work based things while on it.
One personal, switched off while at work .

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/11/2021 15:49

Work phone they can do stuff like take photos of the kids to send updates to the parents so that sort of stuff isn't one their own phone?contacts for kids friends carers to arrange play dates etc? All seems very sensible to me.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 05/11/2021 16:11

Probably for the same reason that people have separate accounts for work and personal emails.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/11/2021 11:45

Do you have both numbers ?

One is for work and other for personal I guess

Psychgrad · 12/11/2021 23:26

Are they originally from a different country? Would one be a uk phone and one from their home country? I did that when I moved as I couldn't afford a fancy smart phone in my new country but bought a cheap pay as you go phone. I also used my old one as that was a smart phone which connected to wifi etc.

NuffSaidSam · 14/11/2021 14:22

I've never known this before and I know loads of nannies!

But I would assume it's just a work phone and a personal phone.

Or maybe you've got a reputation and all the nannies they send to you have to take the 'emergency' phone....
