Start nursery before or after Christmas?

DD turns two at the start of December. The local nurseries all accept children from two, and she can start on any date. They all have typical school terms, so will be closed for a couple of weeks over Christmas. Do you think it's better for her to start nursery from the start of December, go for 2-3 weeks then have Christmas break, or start after new year? She'll probably be going 2-3 half days a week.

I personally think it might be fun for her to get involved in the run up to Christmas, and of course we'll have plenty of time together too, but I do wonder if the gap will throw her off if she's just getting used to nursery.

Please do let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

I'd wait until after Christmas.

Definitely after Christmas. There are so many horrific bugs going round nurseries are the moment and I'm sure it will get worse over winter. You don't want to have to deal with that over Christmas.

I had this last year. Decided to start just after the Christmas break and didn’t regret it 😊

After Christmas due to illnesses.

After. Otherwise you’ll chance undoing any “settling” with the Christmas break.

Findahouse21 · 14/08/2021 14:11

After. Dd has been at nursery since November. She had 2 days off this week due to illness and we had tears going back because even after that short break she was out of the routine of going in

After otherwise prepare for being sick over Christmas.

MiniMaxi · 14/08/2021 14:17

After! To avoid nursery lurgies and settling disruption.

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/08/2021 14:21

If you start before you'll have to re-settle her after Christmas, it'll be too long a break for her to remember. So I'd say after.

And yes, of course she will get sick over Christmas. Mine started nursery in Jan 2020 and I'm pretty sure the first bug he got was Covid 🤦

Haha, that's pretty unanimous! Thank you all!
