Advice/Help re grandparent childcare..

First let me say, I am incredibly appreciative of the fact my my mum and dad are doing childcare for me before anyone tells me this...

So, my DD is going to nursery when she turns 1 next month for 2 days a week, and then a day with my mum and a day with my dad (4 days total). Well, the advice I need is around the time she will spend with my Dad. He only really looked after us from age 2 onwards and whilst he is confident he will be fine (my parents are quite fit and healthy 50s) I am just mostly worried about him getting her to sleep etc....

We have tried to get her used to sleeping in the travel cot there but she's just not having it! I wonder if it's because I'm there and she knows?

Anyway, any advice on how your parents/ILs got your DCs to nap?

I would suggest he takes her out in the pram/pushchair for a walk each afternoon. Even if she doesn't sleep there was a scientific study showed that just being outside led to better sleep overnight. (Article in Daily Teleg circa 2004) FWIW mine started dropping naps from 1 and completely quite any semblance of daytime nap by 17 months.

Thank you! I will advise him to do that as she may drop off and if not will probs feel better for it at least x

Yes a nap in buggy is just as good

Tho will say my toddler was still napping over 3 for 1.5/2hrs daily
And slept 12hrs at night ,

Only stopped as I stopped her nap in summer hols last year knowing she was staring pre school so no nap

Not all stop early. Equally. Not all nap after 3?

Wow @Blondeshavemorefun that's a good napper!
We usually get x2 good naps here but I know she will struggle to settle away from me so definitely going to advise my parents to try a buggy nap x

Sleep breeds sleep

DD won't go down for me easily. Naps are on me, in car or sometimes in pushchair. On me naps usually involve boob. I was worried as you are but both my mum and mil are able to get her down pretty much all the time for a pushchair nap, sometimes outside but often inside. In fact she will often decide she is tired and go to the pram herself. If I am there however that all goes out the window!
