Nannyjob and Gumtree if you want to do it yourself. Both allow you to post ads and look at CVs online. Nannyjob also has a pretty helpful messageboard if you want any advice.

Otherwise there are a few(!) agencies that cover your area. As a nanny I like Herts Tinies, but it's important to find one you "click" with.

Of course you may get lucky and find a nanny on mumsnet who would suit!

thanks for the info! will have a look.
i take it you are in the st albans area?

Nope, not any more! I now live, work and study in Birmingham.

But when I was little I lived in Bucks and went to school in Herts, so when I was first looking for nanny jobs I considered Herts.

I think you are looking a bit too soon. You probably want to start looking 2 maybe 3 months before the position begins. I think most nannies need to give about four weeks notice so if you time it to offer the position about 6-8 weeks before the position begins that should work out. If you start looking too soon, you'll find that there aren't many nannies looking for when you want them to begin (they want a job that starts sooner).

Hi

I'm not far from you and my maternity cover nanny finishes in Feb, not sure if she will consider waiting until May for another job but she might ... let me know and I will pass on contact details.

I can also ask round all the nannies I know and see if I can find anyone but as PP says it is probably a bit early. When I went back to work I found my 2 part-time nannies within a week using an agency and a recommendation. When main nanny (now full-time) went on maternity leave it took me a couple of weeks to find and reference the cover, so start looking Feb/March.

If I can help let me know, am about 10 miles from St Albans.

i too am in st albans but no longer dp permanent work.

Hawthorne nanny agency in Harpenden is fantastic though if you decide to go down the agency route.

I will keep an ear out for any nannies that are looking for work though

If you'd consider a nanny with her own child I may know of someone.....
