How do you go about finding a nanny?

Several clients have asked me this question and it's not something that I've ever thought about before really.

So.......... how does one go about finding a nanny? And is it possible to find one that speaks fluent Italian (not a necessity)?

Thank you

The most popular nanny recruitment site in the UK, as far as I feel, is NannyJob. Posting a job advertisment there is low-cost. There is also a CV section, where you can look for nannies - but it isn't that great in my view, though could turn up a gem.

You could include in an advert that your ideal candidate would be able to speak Italian. However including info like this, may reduce the number of applicants.

Another way of phrasing it, may be to say:
Italian Family Seeks Qualified Experienced Nanny - or something like that, so that applicants are aware that the family is Italian (and thus an Italian speaker will get on better).

If you are in London, then there is a publication called Simply Childcare, which can be worth a try.

Gumtree can be worth trying as well, particularly if your client is willing to recruit someone from abroad (make sure they/you know the immigration/visa rules). You may for example find someone from Italy who wants to work in the UK.

Thank you Nick. I'll sound so knowledgable when I pass that info on.

Mars, there's an agency called LittleOnes that has bilingual nannies section on their website. Have no idea if they're any good, but spotted whilst trawling for French speaking nanny (to help bolster my tired attempts to keep the dds bilingual )

There might also be an Italian version of Ici Londres, which is a French site for French people relocating to London. Or a UK version, if not in London.
