CM Club - Question about ASSISTANTS (again!).......

When I asked last time, I was told that you have to do appraisals etc. The whole idea is to take pressure off me as I will have just had my baby and I will only be needing them for a month or 2. What if a friend steps in for this role and doesn't want appraisals??? Do I HAVE to do them?

Also....remind me, are they allowed sole charge or do I ALWAYS have to be with them? (i.e. are they allowed to do school runs for me?)

TIA

I would only expect an appraisal to be done if the assistant was with you long term, say six months or more, & possibly after the first few weeks to make sure that everything was going fine. They can be left in sole charge children for up to 2 hours with the parents written permission. I have just registered my dh as my assistant as he is going to be redundant after christmas so he can do the school run for me when it is too cold or wet lol! I have produced a general form giving him permission to be left alone with the children on occasions & all my parents are happy to sign it for me.

Cool, thanks for that And the rest of the time, is it ok to let them work as long as I'm watching?

the 2 hours sole charge is for registered assistants - so you have to do the CM2 form & a CRB check

Thanks, I know about the CM2 form but I can't remember how I arrange a CRB check? And how much does it cost?

Katy ho do I go about organizing a assistant. Have a lass that wants to be my assistant, she is actually going on the CM course in march, but another CM in group is going on maternity in Feb, we cant place one of her children, so thought if i could have a assistant then maybe they would let me have another space.

Download the CM2 from the OFSTED website

When OFSTED has processed it they will send you a request for a CRB (no cost)

Then you wait (&wait &wait &wait)

Thanks, looks like I need to sort who will do it ASAP then if it's the usual waiting game!!
