i am a support childminder and my job is to support new childminders
well my friend decided to become a childminder and started in sept (she lives just behind my house)
she was very lucky and got full straight away but she has been having a few probs with an after school girl who is 4
incidents like:
kicking other children
saying rude words (take your clothes of so we can have sex)
wiping poo on the bathroom wall
etc etc
my friends own dd is 4 and they are very competative and last night saw her dd in a&e because of a pushing incident

anyway bottom line is my friend is fed up and i went round last night and encouraged her to phone the mum and call it a day which she did.

the mum phoned my friend tonight saying it must have been the food etc that she is feeding her as her dd is well behaved and would never do xyz
so my friend then text me to bitch but sent the message to the mum instead of me by mistake
well i nearly wet myself (not very good support)

Seriously though, poor little girl! What must she be witnessing at home to know things like that and what sort of parents would have the cheek to blame it on the food that theCM is feeding her? Best shot of her, I suppose.

dmo · 13/11/2007 23:05

she is still my best mate
on friday i was at her house and the baby had a really sore bum so i said to my friend to put a towel down on the play gym and let the baby have a kick around with no nappy on
so i went and got a towel and baby played so nicely for about 30 mins but then started to moan so my friend pick the baby up and sort of patted her bum and the baby had the most horrible diarear (like water) all over my friends hands, clothes, floor
(sorry cant type for laughing )
and all i could do was sit on the sofa crying with laughter throwing baby wipes at her

Oh bless her! Talk about a baptism of fire! She'll be scared off of childminding for life, if it continues like this! I hope you've told her she would be an absolute tonic in the Staff room! Stories like that could really make our day sometimes!

dmo · 13/11/2007 23:12

i will do

what should she do? ncma contract say 2 wks notice on both sides but my friend had agreed to 4 wks

HEHHEHEHEHEHHE! fantastic, my 'friend' did that to me once, I already knew she was a bitchy two faced so so, so when i got a text about how i feed my kids , lemonade and lollipops, and some other awful thing I do, I knew she had not meant to send it to me!!!!!!!!!! I laffed, and laffed, and sent back a message, soory who do you mean? I knew it was me, but just wanted to see what the excuse was, it was lame, but made my evening
Ps I do give my kids and minded children lollipops and lemonade, AT our xmas party only!!!!!! she meets her kids with choc everyday from school, on the basis choc sicks to teeth less than sweets, I still find it funny now!

SweetSnowflake · 14/11/2007 10:53

think she has to be careful because of the text, although you can go on the 'she was asking for advice from suppoort cm' but i doubt her text meant for you was for advice ..more of a blow off?
what did the mum text back?
TBH if i got a text like that, i wouldnt take my kids back, but DO believe the mum is in wrong for blaming cm and food instead of addresssing the issue!

BTW i did exactly the same thing to a friedn who was having an affair with her boss whilst he and she were engaged to diff people..sent message to her instead of other friend saying how stupid she was and why wont she admit it etc etc

BradfordMum · 14/11/2007 12:00

Sorry, but stories lik this just reitterate that childminders can still be totally unprofessional. I'd hate to think my CM was sending bitchy texts about me.

I think your friend needs to remain professional AT ALL TIMES, even if the mum is a pita.

tissy · 14/11/2007 12:17

Don't know much about cm contracts, but given that your friend (albeit in error)sent the mother a bitchy text about her, I would not make a fuss about the mother withdrawing the child early and not paying her notice.

Piggy · 14/11/2007 12:19

Agree with tissy. I certainly wouldn't want to send my child to be looked after by someone who sent bitchy unprofessional texts about me.

mollylou · 14/11/2007 13:19

oh lighten up you lot! Childminder's are human too!

looneytune · 14/11/2007 13:25

I sort of see what you're saying but offices etc are full of staff saying this about other staff members, their bosses etc. It was a geniune mistake and I'm sure she was mortified.

LoveMyGirls · 14/11/2007 13:27

I'd leave the notice money, as long as she has been paid for the hours she has worked. At the end of the day she's learnt her lesson and can put it all down to experience and be glad it's over and she can move on, from the whole thing.

Piggy · 14/11/2007 13:30

Doesn't matter whether it happens in an office context/CM context or anywhere else. It's totally unprofessional.

looneytune · 14/11/2007 13:31

I agree, was just saying that so are a LOT of human beings at work!

As for money.....I agree, thinking about the text etc I would leave the payment!

smeeinachristmastreeinnit · 14/11/2007 18:05

omg dmo that is hillariously bad! your poor friend, how embarrasing!
ive done this before a couple of times, v v v embarrasing!

tissy · 14/11/2007 20:49

lighten up, mollylou ?

This childminder clearly had difficulties with the child and parent, negociated an end to the contract (quite reasonable), then slagged off the mother, and sent the bitchy text to her, THEN had the cheek to press for the notice money?

I don't think this is a laughing matter, actually. If my daughter's cm behaved like this, I would be reporting her to NCMA and the Care Commission. This is a highly unprofessional way to behave, and not a laughing matter.

dmo I hope you will support your "friend" properly, if/ when the official complaint comes in.
