to be fair to mindee parent she had been at school all day ok, but then why should I be fair, I was not warned about it and I bet it was not the 48 hours Ofsted ask for them to be excluded for school or carers.

Kiddi · 13/11/2007 14:05

Kay on a lighter note not sure if its in around by you yet, but Surestart around here have banned hot drinks due to too many close calls. one of my pet hates is hot drinks around kids, but as surestart are supposed to be supporting parents who often would not bring their kids out to play other wise, I find it mad that they wont then allow drinks in a safe area for those parents and carers who do make the effort to warm back up with, so count yourself lucky, you get some TEA oh yes and biscuits are now also banned at childminding group.

KaySamuels · 13/11/2007 14:07

Runs from staffroom screaming in horror!

KaySamuels · 13/11/2007 14:09

I have a huge skin graft on my left arm and thigh so I share your views on hot drinks but that is ridiculous! Why not ban cars and concrete pavements while we are at it?

Couldn''t live without tea!

SweetSnowflake · 13/11/2007 14:10

oh yes i used to go to a cm group/playgroup run by surestart, we only ever had water out of dispenser to drink and one day i innocently took some jaffa cakes in to share among cm's and mindees and was practically hung!!!.although the packet i also took in for the staff didnt seem to be a problem and quickly dissapeared out of sight

KaySamuels · 13/11/2007 14:11

Today at our Tuesday playgorup there was melon, bananas, seeded toast, raisin bagels, tea, coffe, juice and BISCUITS!

MaureenMLove · 13/11/2007 14:14

Anyone know what happens if you decide to just stop CMing? Will Ofsted just say OK, buy? Reason I'm asking is, as you know, I'm not long in this job now and I'm damned if I'm going to fill in diaries for parents who couldn't give a stuff how many poo's their lo has done during the day! I know I'll be off before my next OFSTED, so I'm tempted to cut back on non-essential paper work!

SweetSnowflake · 13/11/2007 14:17

Mo i havent done a diary for my full timer in weeks, i tell mum what happends each day, but mum NEVER brings diary back and ive bought 4 this year for her..so havent botherd!..ive printed off a sheet which says my business name, space to write in childs name, and date then space under to write a very brief description of what theyve done today!..i too am sick of spending the time being thoughtful in what i write only to find they havent taken two minutes to find out what their LO have been up to (i know this cos one parent still has holiday notices and newsletters still in pages and hasnt answered questions i have repetedly asked in them!

MaureenMLove · 13/11/2007 14:24

Thanks. I just don't see the point of them. I may as well get a stamp made up with the same words that I write over and over! Changed bum, eat food, slept....! I wouldn't mind, but I don't even have to tell them WHAT they've eaten. My mindee brings her dinner with her! Call me old fashioned, but when my parents collect, they ask me if anything unusual has happened during the day. They are so not interested if everything went as it should!

BTW, having read my last post, I note that I have spelt 'Bye' wrong!

KaySamuels · 13/11/2007 14:27

I have same issues with diaries too SS, it drives me mad! I also do very basic daily sheets when diary left at home, got babies back the other day and last date in it was August! I know mum is not bothered though, she trusts me and I tell her anything she needs to know, it is pointless time wasted that couold be spent playing! .

Gonna go tidy up now before school run but thanks all, have cheered me up!

looneytune · 13/11/2007 16:40

HELP......mindee (girl, nearly 4) just asked how babies get in your tummy. I said she needs to ask her mummy and daddy that but if they want me to tell her that's fine.

Did I do the right thing??? I couldn't obviously just tell her, it's not my place without their permission!!!

I was fine when ds asked when he was newly 4 - just that I always knew I'd tell him as it is. But never had mindee ask!

KaySamuels · 13/11/2007 16:56

If I had been put on the spot I would probably have said the same! You never know what their parents would have wanted you to say, everyone wants their kids to know different things/ or varied amounts of information!

looneytune · 13/11/2007 17:04

Exactly......I'm just glad ds didn't say....well, the daddy puts his winkle in mummy's bits and they have a special cuddle!!

looneytune · 13/11/2007 17:04

winky I meant!

Mum2Luke · 13/11/2007 17:04

IAnyoner seen on BBC website (news) about the childminder who killed the little baby? As if we don't have enough problems filling our places due to bad press and general ignorance about our job.

I've been minding a 13th old for this lady as she had hurt her back, I've only got him till Friday but it may lead to more work with Suretstart.

I really want to stay as a childminder while my lad is 5 and perhaps do a Foundation Degree in Early Years if I can sort out with the 4 yr old's mum.

looneytune · 13/11/2007 17:06

Oh no....not seen that Will have a look later!
