though I know no one will have missed me. I haven't posted much but I love reading the threads here.

I'm Claire, a nanny in West London. Left a nursery which was DREADFUL (manager swore in front of children, there were barbed comments prompted by my skin colour, people had haircuts, pedicures and eyebrow threading done by their colleagues in front of the children and on work time..... aargh!) and now I'm an afterschool nanny.
I just managed to find something in the mornings as well, so I'm pretty happy that I'm getting plenty of experience and still being able to pay the rent.

Charge 1 is a real little madam but very cute with it. She is a classic "pusher" who is trying to see where my boundaries are. I had her thrashing at me and screaming today, and I love that I'm able to stay calm and just say, "Please don't talk to me like that, I don't like it. I'm leaving you alone until you've calmed down" and she came down two minutes later and said she was sorry. I LOVE that we're getting to know each other..... poor little thing has had a nanny leave after a few weeks so I think she's going to take a while to trust me but she let me give her big cuddles when she fell over today - last week she wouldn't let me even hold her hand.

I used to work in an office and I just know I've made the right career choice. Oooh I could wax lyrical for ages.

Anyone else around Hammersmith / Fulham?

I know quite a few nannies around and about, but I tend to hang out with a couple of Mums in the park - plus my friend's son goes to the same school as my charge, so I run into them quite often.

It's fascinating on here hearing all the opinions from employers as well.

I posted a while back pondering what else I could do in the mornings, and was lucky enough to find something right on my doorstep for the right hours. So everything's falling into place.

Now I just have to get to grips with last year's tax return...... as I'm still in the twilight of "oh, we usually just pay cash in hand".......... ;)
