Can you use tax credits towards paying for a nanny?

I maybe able to claim a small amt when I first return, but long term a nanny is going to work out best (I hope ) for the children and finacally. So I was just wondering if there was a way to claim for paying a nanny?

well if you're working you'll get working tax credit

Yes you will, if she is OFSTED registered.

Basically the deal is that they'll fund any childcare as long as they're inspected by OFSTED.

Important, if you are talking about Childcare element of Working Tax Credit, there are weekly upper limits. While some parents get a claim award of 80%, this does not mean that you can claim 80% of all costs of your childcare. It means that you can claim 80% of the weekly threshold. See page 4 of WTC5 (dooley1 kindly posted a link earlier). At the time of writing, if you get 80% award, then if you have 1 child, you can claim £140 per week. That isn't going to cover paying for a nanny... but it helps a little.

Also another scheme in operation is Childcare Vouchers - contact your employer to see if they provide those... doesn't save that much, but again it helps a little.

PS. Ofsted Registered Nannies can be blokes
