Hi, I love being home with my 18-month-son, but am conscious that i need to keep my hand in with work. i'm looking for a childminder or a SAHM who'd be willing to look after my son on a casual basis ie sometimes one day a week, sometimes two, sometimes none, obviously with a bit of notice given. I've thought about emergency childcare, but don't relish idea of taking my son somewhere he doesn't know.

Best thing is to ring round childminders and ask if they'd do it, some are very happy doing adhoc care. Try here

Please note that if you're using a SAHM, they will have to come to your house and be treated like a nanny - I can't advise on pay, tax etc, just wanted to point out it wouldn't be legal for a non-registered childminder to look after your child in their home for more than 2 hours.

Leonora, quite a lot of Tooting / Streatham childminders go to the playgroup on Wednesday mornings on Longley Road (or at least it used to be then) or the Mums and Tots drop in at the Furzedown Family Centre (Mon-Fri 9.30 or 10 until 11.30/12 I think). The Family Centre is in the Graveney School campus on Welham Road, up behind the sixth form centre. You can also put a notice up there if you're looking for someone.
