Childcare on adhoc basis

Hi, I've got an 18-month-old son and am looking to do the odd bit of work again (i'm a freelance sub-editor) - and thus need flexible childcare. I was just wondering if there were any mums out there in my area (tooting bec or thereabouts) a home with little ones, or childminders with room for one more sometimes, who would like the extra cash every now and then - ie sometimes I get work for 2 days a week, sometimes none - but don't want to be tied down to looking after another child full time. This kind of adhoc basis is very hard to find ? but I thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks

Try having a look at the emergencychildcare website. I have used it a number of times when doing supply work and needing 'one off' childcare.

Thanks for tip - guess, it's really expensive though, isn't it?

I do this sort of basis for a couple of friends in the village I live in (Bedfordshire, sorry!) but I'm sure I'm not the only ad-hoc childminder!

The emergency care site seemed to be at whatever rate the cm charged plus a bit to cover the site's fees....I did look at singing up to it but often I am asked eg at school gates to have mindee that afternoon for example and I wouldn't want to say no to friend if I'd had booking via website!

Hope you find something that works for you! Have you tried your local children's information service? Go to this page and put your postcode in!

I just wondered if you had found a solution to your childcare, LeonoraW? I also live in tooting am looking to start working on a freelance basis (I am a researcher) - probably 2 days a week but on an ad hoc basis. I have a 16 month old son. It would be great to hear how you - and others in a similar position- have approached childcare!

Hi

I am a nanny who does this type of thing. I can be contacted on [email protected]

Thanks
