How much would you expect to pay for babysitting/nanny?

I'm considering offering a babysitting/nanny service since there are such limited opportunities for jobs at the moment, and parents struggling to get back to work.

I am 22, qualified, and with just over 2 years experience working with 3 months+ as an Early Years Practitioner and Head Nanny (lots of informal experience on top of that).

It would be my only job for a while, and I want to make rates work for both parties... I have no idea what the going rate is where I live, so I can't decide what to charge. What would you be expecting/happy to pay?

Thanks in advance!

Baby sitter is very different to a nanny, will be employed status and therefore tax and national insurance etc. For a Baby sitter I pay £10ph. For a nanny I think the rate near me is about £100 a day.

Geographically where are you?

I'm in the Shetland Islands, Scotland!

Dd is getting £8.50 an hour she told me yesterday, she's a student. If it's full time they need to pay your ni and pension too, I would start at £12 an hour and discount a bit for a 10 hours day if I were you

Thanks for you reply! That's helpful, thank you. I was paid £10ph at my last babysitting job. That was in Edinburgh, caring for 1 toddler on an occasional basis.
I feel like that could vary a bit where I live now and if I was working more hours.
