I'm about to do my first self assessment form this week, and it terrifys me, how many of you do your own or do you have an accountant, friend who helps etc?

I just hope I do it right... so scary

Are you doing it on-line - it's very easy

looneytune · 21/09/2007 18:37

very very easy, i was scared at first but it's very easy online. the worst part is making sure you have all the receipts etc. my worst of all was splitting the shopping and working out what was for childminding. the assessment itself is very easy

Not a childminder but do do tax returns for people - do it online as it's very straightforward - presume your turnover is under £15k in which case you only do short tax return.

Before you start, make sure you have all yr end bank statements to hand so you can claim back any interest you may have paid if you net less than the personal allowance.

Don't forget to include mileage at 40p mile (if you use a car) as an expense too and include an amount for utilities etc.
