Childcare in own home for a 9 year old

Think someone posted something similar a little earlier...but I'd like clarification on this.

Is it OK (as in legal) to pay someone to look after a child who is over 8 years old in their own home?

I am a childminder who is stopping 'minding' and am trying to help find other arrangements for my mindees. I have an assistant who currently works with me afternoons only. The family of the 9 year old I look after have asked me if there is anyway my assistant can carry on picking up their daughter (assistant is CRB checked and family know her now) but look after her in their house...rather than mine.

My first thought was that this isn't legal as she'd be looking after child for more than 2 hours...but having seen posts on an earlier thread as she's 9 years old is this OK?

If so, am assuming the parents would just class this as a separate arrangement and negotiate a separate fee with my assistant...who wouldn't be my assistant then (all a bit confusing!).

Would appreciate your thoughts.

yes you can do it

It is called being a nanny.

The childs parenst become employers and have all the legal obligations of employers, including having to sort out nannies tax and NI and then paying employers NI contributions as well. + payslips and contracts etc

Nanny entitled to paid holiday / SSP / maternity pay etc

Thanks NannyL. I wasn't sure if it was classed as being a nanny as my assistant isn't qualified...as in doesn't have qualifications (NVQs/NNEB etc) in this area.

Can a person still be classed as a nanny without the qualifications as long as they are police checked?
