As i am hoping to go to uni full time next sept and would need a childminder for both my school age kids from around 7.30am til around 6.45pm (after school), would there by any CMs who could work this long?
if not then i am stuffed..

i wouldn't need holiday care though.

I do ! I do ! Though you might find some CMs charge extra for 'unsociable hours' ie before 8am and after 6pm. I don't! I don't!

mumlove · 10/08/2007 19:43

This is one of the best things about childminders, we can choose our own hours we want to work. All you need to do is phone up and ask.

dmo · 10/08/2007 19:44

i work from 7.15am until 9pm twice a week to help a mother who is at uni
other days i finish at 6.30pm
i also dont charge extra for the hours just my normal rate

stacie1985 · 10/08/2007 19:44

hello most childminders in my area are open 6 am till 7pm and i am also but most do charge before 8 a little more and after six a little more but you shouldnt have a problem childminders generally set their own opening hours and this should be with their details on your local cis website

allgonebellyup · 10/08/2007 19:48

oh i didnt realise you could choose your own hours! thought for some reason that CMs could only work 8-6..

thats fab! just have to find one next year in my area!

so my dc could have their evening meal at the CMs too ??

It all depends, some do some dont, I do as i feed my own children at 5pm anyway. Have a look on the childcare link website for your area and see if any of them have websites you can look at. hth

allgonebellyup · 10/08/2007 20:37

thanks.

just looked at the Childcare Link for my area, and although there are 7 childminders that do drop offs/pick ups at my dc's school, they ALL state their hours are either 8-6 or even 8-5.30!!

oh dear

Ring them and explain your needs, you never know they may be willing to do longer hours.

MaureenMLove · 10/08/2007 20:57

Don't give up yet, you'll find someone. Which area are you in? You never know, there might be someone on here who can a least point you in another direction. Oh and the childminders you've found are very luck to be able to state the hours they work. Most of us take the work when we can get it! I work from 6am - 7pm some days!

LoveMyGirls · 11/08/2007 07:36

My hours say 8-6 but I will work outside these hours, I used to start at 7am. I now start at 7.45am. You just have to ring round and find out who is willing to do this. They will probably charge more outside those hours though. hth

PinkChick · 13/08/2007 11:22

my normal hours state something like that on cis site, but i work any hours i want inc very earlies and very altes plus overnight...ring them all and enquire

UnquietDad · 13/08/2007 11:26

Granny Murray seems to work all day and all night!

But then, she is not human. I think she is actually a Slitheen.

Ineedaholiday · 13/08/2007 12:39

Ive never been able to take Granny Murray seriously. Every time I watch it I just see Isa out of Still Game. Got even worse after the last episode of the last series where they were looking back in time and it ended with a back view of her jumping onto a sofa with just her pants on.
I hope that Still Games not just shown in Scotland cos if it is nobody will have a clue what Im talking about.

Shoshable · 13/08/2007 12:53

My CIS says 8-6 but i actually start at 7, most childminders are quite flexible.

Booh · 13/08/2007 13:46

where are you as there are lots of us on here and someone may be local to you!
