Sorry, I need a major virtual rant!!!

When I was on holiday I had stress of not having enough money at one point due to a big payment being a couple of days late and the other not at all (that one was a misunderstanding). Well I spoke to the sisters mum to say that I must have money IN MY BANK on 1st of each month. She confirmed she changed the standing order so would make sure was on time, even if bank holiday etc.

Well, it's 2nd and still no money. I'm due nearly £900 and I'm furious and upset. As some of you know, hubby and I are off to London for a long weekend at a posh hotel (paid for by vouchers won by dh) and it's our wedding anniversary treat. Well now I'm worried about how we're going to pay for meals etc if the money doesn't come tomorrow. AND.......TO TOP IT ALL...........the parents are on holiday!!!

Sorry, just so upset I could cry right now!!

Feel better now, thanks

One of my parents pays by standing order, it leaves their account on the 1st but doesnt get to mine until 3rd or 4th, maybe this is what will happen here. I know how much of a pain not being paid is, and the amount is alot, best of luck

looneytune · 02/08/2007 16:34

Yes, this is the mistake she made so she changed it so I got paid BY 1st. I've been paid by standing order for a year and half by this family, they know the deal and it's weird how it used to be ok!

Oh LT that is cr*p! When are they back from holidays??

When they get back, go straight round and tell them in a firm (but professional ) manner, that it is unnacceptable they owe you this amount, and that you expect cash to be brought to you that day. Is au pair still with them? If you don't get it I really think ou should give notice, you have put up wit so much from them - £900 ffs!!! I am for you!

looneytune · 02/08/2007 18:01

Cheers, I've calmed down now, just needed a good cry after mindee went and now I feel better. They went on holiday yesterday and aren't back until next Wed. By then I'm very sure the money will be in my bank anyway BUT it's too late. I'm definitely charging them for this as I've let them off other odd occasions but she promised it was changed, I don't get it. Anyway, already emailed saying I was very worried etc and told her I think she needs to phone her bank and get THEM to tell her when the money needs to leave her account to GUARANTEE it's in my account by 1st of each month. It was always fine, worked with this family long enough! I just don't know why it's being late recently But yes, if the money wasn't in my account when they get home then NO WAY would I take the kids until I'm paid. I really don't think it's a case of them not paying me, it's just the timings need sorting and it's VITAL to me that it's right! I wouldn't be SOOO upset if it wasn't for being so excited about our special weekend we've been so looking forward to, I just worry about what if the money isn't there tomorrow.

Anyway, thanks for letting me rant

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, hope it comes through tomorrow, have a lovely weekend! CM club is fab for a good rant about late payments, we all get it and have no one in the same boat usually in RL!

looneytune · 02/08/2007 18:09

Cheers. This is the first time it's been a real problem so I should count myself lucky. Just it's the bigger payment so I really need it!!

Anyway, rant over, off to think about what I need to pack etc.

Still not paid, she's messed up our whole weekend away If it doesn't come later today, it won't be there til at least Monday now. I'm so

I had a really bad payer once so I changed our contract to include a £25 late payment fee. (With the amount you are owed I would suggest a higher fee)I also gave the late payer an invoice a week earlier than usual (to allow her to budget and not spend "my" money on payday in the shops!)

I know this doesnt help you immediately but it may sort it out for the future.

Good luck.

MrsWeasley · 03/08/2007 09:15

you could always change the contract to say that the payment needs to be in your account on the 1st. If they have a standing order from their account she just needs to change the date.
If she doesnt have the funds available before the 1st, then cash on the 1st would be needed.

looneytune · 03/08/2007 09:20

Cheers. She was a fine payer until more recently. We had words after I had money probs on holiday for it being late and was also charge £30 by my bank! Well she told me it left her bank on 29th and so changed it to 27th. Even if it was still 29th, it should have arrived yesterday so I'm very concerned.

I'm doing a contract review when she's back and will make it very clear in the contract that it's got to be IN on 1st (even though she knows this and it's clear on my invoices that are sent a week in advance). She never looks at invoices to pay me as it's a standing order she's had running for a year and half.

Really have to get on and pack, clean house etc before my parents get here.

Thanks for letting me rant

I'm really sorry to hear this has happened, and that you need this money for your weekend away.
If you use telephone banking, then keep checking as I've often got a balance in the morning, and the seen that funds have been added later in the day..
I sincerely hope that you get paid.

looneytune · 03/08/2007 10:58

Cheers, me too. Been checking online banking and still not there and bank just said they can't tell us til it's there. I've had a text back from the parent saying 'who is it'. I didn't put my name at the end as ran out of room plus her phone normally tells her. Anyway, text back saying who it was but at least i know she's got the text! Fingers crossed. My parent have just offered to lend me money but it's sooooo not the point! The stress has ruined things again!

Anyway, thanks

looneytune · 03/08/2007 11:22

Right, she's emailed full of apologies and said she has spent 40 mins on the phone to bank and is going to investigate properly when gets back. She's just paid me but I won't get the money until Tuesday!

I believe it's a problem and not that she planned it or anything BUT what do I do about charging? It's seriously stressed me out and now I need to work out what cash I can use for my weekend away so we're going to be leaving late

OP posts:
saltire · 03/08/2007 11:38

"who is it?" - does she owe that many people money she didn't know who you were

mogs0 · 03/08/2007 15:55

It's really annoying when you're not paid.

It does sound like she hasn't done it on purpose so, if it were me, wouldn't charge a late fee.

It's good that your parents have offered to lend you some money for your weekend. I'd take it, have a great weekend and worry about the rest when you get back!!

Hope you enjoy your weekend!!

jellyjelly · 03/08/2007 17:02

Oh looney i am so sorry that this has upset you and i can totally see why. I know how much you were looking forward to it.

If she has already paid you and per a post lower why did she re pay you. It makes it sound like it hasnt bothered paying you at all.

Have you thought about bringing the date forward to the 25th so if it happens again and your bills go out on say the 1st then you have time to get cash and pay it in.

Might be worth a try and try and have a great weekend.

jellyjelly · 03/08/2007 17:03

You need to charge for this looney dont let them get away with it again. Its not fair on YOU or DS or DH.
