Nut perceptions are not always accurate.. all the childminders I know will work through pulled back, cold, and anything that dosent risk children I worked through chemo. So basing a decision on oh they maybe Ill is in my experience not the best reasoning, things like where is child going to be happiest, facilities and environment are much more relevant. But people dont even look at childminders if the first thought is what do I do when they close....which for most of us is about 2 weeks a year booked in January and often including christmas when most people want to be with their children (regardless of religion).

i didn’t consider a childminder because I was a horribly shy child around other children, and hoped going to nursery would stop my son being the same way. It seems to have worked - he’s very sociable and never nervous around other children. It never occurred to me that either nursery or a childminder might be unreliable when I was choosing childcare for DS, but in my group of friends, it’s the ones with their children at a childminders who complain about unreliability. The ones with children at nursery complain about other things, myself included! Neither are perfect but in my experience, nursery at least doesn’t shut for holidays or illness.
