Hi ladies, I’m a single mother of one who lives in Kent while my whole family lives in London. I’m currently on benefits but I’ve also been looking for a job and nurseries since we moved and managed to find both but the nursery only has space for one full day at the minute (15 hrs free childcare, only takes 9 hrs) then the job is part time but requires me to be flexible (care work). Also in October I’ll be going back to study psychology through distance learning. So I’m wondering if there is any additional support we could receive to help us.

Thank you in advance

Hi Blake,

Could you accept the 9 hours for now if it's free anyway? Children already at nursery usually get a priority when new places open up. Regarding care work no personal experience, but firends who did it managed to work on their preferred days with usually the same clients.

Good luck with your studies, hope it all falls into place soon.

Hi Blake,

I am also doing care work, could you find a company that lets you be flexible? My little one is 1 and they allow me to work my preferred times between 7am and 10pm, some days I do 7am till 11am other days all day and sometimes evenings depending on partners shifts, it's worth an ask x

There should be more spaces at the nursery in September. Ask them now.

Thank you all for your advice and time to respond I appreciate and am open to all avenues you all suggested. I have recently applied for my daughters 30hrs and I’ve been told that will kick in in September and that’s the time the nursery should generate more space. And yes my work place is extremely flexible with me working the hours suitable for my lifestyle and situation.
So I can see things slowly but finally falling into place. Thank God.
And thank you ladies again
