Hi

I am a single mother and i am recently coming up to qualifying as a midwife this year.

I have accepted a job offer for one of the bigger cities and i am really excited to start this journey. however with one massive set back..Childcare??

I have been single several years, and have managed to do my degree with the help of my fiends for childcare , However they will all be leaving after the course and i don't live near any family.

I am struggling with figuring out how i am going to be able to actually work once i qualify without no help with childcare. I am happy to pay for some help, but I'm at a loss how??

childcare clubs only run for so long, i am night shifts and weekends cover? I think to myself there must be other single parents out there who manage and i need to find out your secret :)

I have though of the option of an au pair, but i am clueless as to how this would work, i additionally would need to buy a home with an extra bedroom??

I also have a running on call where i may get called out but alternatively may not?

any help or advice, or am i doomed to fail at this ?

I think you are going to struggle with finding care for evenings/nights and weekends. A live-in nanny might work but you would need to be very clear about the need for them to work evenings and weekends, most likely based on a rota known in advance. You may find someone live-out who would do that, so no need for the additional bedroom... though would need somewhere to sleep... mattress on the floor is not ideal but could be workable short term with someone who does not mind that.

Running on call will be tricky - you will probably need to have someone be at your home for the entire time you are on call.
