How much is a Nanny in London?!

Hi,

How much would a live in Nanny cost that would do childcare for one baby aged 11 months for 3 days a week from 7-6pm. No other housework required or childcare the other days. Is this a legitimate request?

I live in London if that helps?

Nannies are paid by the hour. Yes typical hours. Nanny may have another job the other two days, so be sure to agree a Gross hourly rate. Im not sure of London rate. My area , commuter area £10 to £13 per hour gross.

£300 (gross) a week? It would be less than a live out as a live out also has to pay rent/bills. A live out would probably earn upwards of £450 for those same hours. I'd suggest ringing a nanny agency or looking at similar ads to see what they charge

£17 - £20/ hour is reasonable for a professional, trained nanny who is degree-educated. Less for fewer qualifications

You can do it but might find it harder to get a live in for 3 days, most would want full time. Definitely possible though!

For live out in our part of London you'd usually pay something like £12 net an hour (nothing like what SW7 mum is paying, even after tax!), So around £500 a week for your hours. Live in you don't normally save as much as you might think. Work out what it would cost to rent a room, they'll want to 'lose' a lot less than that, as they will have to live at their place of work.

Have a look on childcare.co.uk or call an agency to get an idea can be helpful.

Live out is around £12 net ph for a nanny with experience and usually some Cache qualifications in our part of London. Tax adds c. 30% on top. No doubt for a top end super nanny with a Norland type / degree background, it could be far more as per SW7 mums figures. Live-in a bit less but possibly not as much as you think. Ring around some agencies.

SW7mum · 09/03/2019 08:40

Sorry my £17-20 was for live-out, not live-in!

insancerre · 09/03/2019 08:52

But where would they live for the other 4 days of the week? 3 days pay isn't enough to pay for a place they are only living in for 4 days a week

Stuckforthefourthtime · 09/03/2019 09:02

I'd assume they'd be living in full time? If insancerre has it right and they'd only live in on work days then you'd pay overnight costs and it's ££££

Remember to factor it in pension on top - we pay all our nanny’s contribution which is 7% of salary. We pay gross £15.50 and give healthy bonuses.
