Funded Hours + Tax free childcare payment

Hi

Does anyone here know whether by signing up to the funded hours, whether my childminder would autmatically be enrolled into the tax free childcare payments scheme also?

I know that she has signed up to do the funded hours so i was expecting to be able to find her on the portal to assign her as a childcare provider on my account, but cant find her no matter how hard i try.

I called the HMRC helpline, but they really didn't seem to know what they were talking about.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Maybe... but funded hours are done by local authorities, TFC is done by HMRC so whilst the systems are connected your childminder may need to take an extra step to be on TFC - I'm not a childminder, so you need a childminder to answer this.

Have you searched correctly on the system?
You need to search using registration and postcode. There must be no space in the postcode.

Example: EY123456 GU143AA
Your enter both bits of info the search box, in that exact format.

The answer is no, we have to sign up to them separately.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply to me.

I do the TFC and I’ve recently had the funded hours code allocated to the account. I just have to give this to the CM nearer the time

tissues for a childminder to accept either of those things, it is a completely different set up process though, which is what the op is asking.

Looneytune253 · 19/12/2018 20:38

No it’s a different system entirely. I’m a cm and I registered with council for funded hrs and government for tax free childcare

HSMMaCM · 20/12/2018 14:35

Ask your CM if she is set up for both. The HMRC systems are less than perfect, so it may just be that you can't find her.

Thank you all - I dont think she is signed up for the Tax Free payments. Such a shame it doesn't auto enrol for both.

Thanks again for replying to my query - much appreciated.

Merry Christmas.

As people have said, they are different systems run by different agencies. Also it’s voluntary to accept either type of payment. There are many childminders who don’t want to accept one or the other for many reasons and would object to being automatically enrolled in such schemes. We have a right (as does everyone) to control where our information is shared.

I mean it would make less paperwork for everyone and stress. Totally understand it’s upto the childminder whether they offer funded or various payment options. Just like it’s up to the parent where they put their child during the day when they go to work to pay for the childcare.
