Salary expectation nanny 24/5

Hi there,

I am a nanny and would love some advice on salary expectations.

I have been looking for a job in Switzerland to join my partner. I have been offered a job of 1000 per week net for 6 days a week and 24 hours. It is a job with one child and not maternity but long term.

This is similar to what I currently earn for 5 days and 12 hours a day and I believe it is too low.

I want to only do 5 days a week but 24 hour care is what they would like of the one child so I would offer Monday - Friday full time care or negiotate working blocks of days and then having a few days off at a time.

I have many years of experience as a teacher and a nanny so I feel I should be able to ask for a good salary.

What do you think is reasonable to ask as a 24 hour nanny Monday to Friday for one child net take home pay?

Thanks mumsnet

I think you posted this here by mistake. Try another sector Smile

This seems very low for Switzerland. I've no experience in childcare rates over there but did visit a lot for work.

Is this live in? All meals, accommodation and a car for your own use included?

Hi coldcottage- no worries, I am always navigating wrong on here!

So it is 1000 live in all included (no car as I don't drive) but that is for a Monday to Saturday offer including nights. Without going fully into the job the child is always with you and also nighttime responsibility.

I think it is too low as another job in Switzerland is Monday - Friday 12 hours and accomedation and all included.

I am not sure what to ask for as net per week for Monday - Friday but think 1000 a week 24 hours is not worth it, even if just one child.

I meant to say I think it is too low as another job in Switzerland is Monday - Friday 12 hours and accomodation and all included is £900 a week.

So to be offered 1000 pounds for essentially so much more work is not really comparable to me.

Ask for what you think you are worth and see what they say. Probably just trying it on. If the child might be awake a lot in the night allow for that. I'd probably want £1,300-£1,500 if it were me that's a lot of responsibility and not much time out.

If you are wanting to go to Switzerland to join your partner, I don’t think this is the right job. You won’t get to see him except for one 24 hour period a week and by then I’d think you would be knackered. If you are going to be with him, would you not be better with a live out position so you actually see him?

Wow is that even allows?! 24/6 is bananas for a job ... 24 anything is bananas - do you have any dedicated sleep time?
