My Babysitting Website has had a little revamp over the past couple of days.
I would love you to tell me what you Dislike about my site... for example, was there something you would want to see, but didn't find? Do you think the colour scheme is horrible? Do you think it contains too much information, or too little information?

Come on, be as nasty as you like... tell me what you dislike. Many thanks.

That's a lot less confusing to my baby-addled brain
Am I the only one who quite likes the red? I do agree with whoever said that the bullet points should be black though.
Just hvaing a nose through the site (too far away for me though), and I've just noticed:
"When I babysit, some children are already in bed... others are not. I do not mind either way, as with young it is best to stick with their usual routine"
You've missed a word out after "young" sorry if this has already been mentioned

What colour would be best to use?

There are issues over getting photos of me with children for whom I care. I will try to get photo permissions yet again from clients, but it's hard to get.

Do you have children of your own, could they be in a pic?
Also:
"I promise that Your email address is 100% safe
and will under no circumstances be passed on to anyone else."
There's a type in Your - the capital.
But I don't think you can guarantee that - some of it is beyond your control, maybe just say you won't pass it on.

RubberDuck · 31/05/2007 10:15

What about using stock photography of children? You can get images for fairly reasonable prices for website design - will check with hubby which sites he uses. (obviously the children won't be with you then, but will provide more kid pics, iyswim)

RubberDuck · 31/05/2007 10:16

Just asked - dh uses istockphoto predominantly.

Katy44 · 31/05/2007 10:17

"typo"

nannynick · 31/05/2007 10:21

Have located a picture of me with children which can be used, it is a year or so old, but hey. Have put it on the contact page, so take a look.

Stock photos is a good idea, already use some in the header.

Black text for the bullet points looks much better. I like it. Love the big red quote marks on the Special needs section - can you transfer that to the Testamonials too - looks fab.

RubberDuck · 31/05/2007 10:25

Incidentally, isn't it amazing how much small changes can make a huge difference? It's come such a long way since last night!

Katy44 · 31/05/2007 10:26

much better
on your contact page, the bottom of the red rectangle isn't straight any ,more
let me know if that doesn't make sense and i'll try to explain further

Katy44 · 31/05/2007 10:27

yes, bid red quotes look good and really stand out

Katy44 · 31/05/2007 10:28

your brochure opens in the same window - was that intentional?

RubberDuck · 31/05/2007 10:29

Family registration form - doesn't have the same look and feel as you lose the menus and header for that page - makes it difficult to change your mind and go back for more info. Would embed that form into the standard template to make navigation easier.

Katy44 · 31/05/2007 10:31

just realised the brochure they need to request from the top link can be downloaded on the bottom link.
Are they the same doc?

Katy44 · 31/05/2007 10:34

oh sorry, have just scrolled down that page
so what format is it in when they get the email?

nannynick · 31/05/2007 10:39

Think I have fixed the IE problem regarding margins - oh why can IE behave the same way as Firefox.

Registration form has not been updated yet, will get done in due course.

Will keep working at it... and yes, you are all being a great help and small changes do make a big difference.

Brochure - It is a PDF.

I am experimenting with using a follow-up system, thus why I ask for Name and Email address. Not sure how well it is working, as have not had any new clients via that method yet.

Is it better to provide the brochure as a free download, without asking for any info, or asking for a little info (name and email) so that I can at least send follow-up messages to visitors who requested the brochure?

"oh why can IE behave the same way as Firefox"

And the screams of all web developers everywhere mingle into one

RubberDuck · 31/05/2007 10:44

re: brochure - depends. You may find less people download the brochure as a result who don't want to give info at this stage. Then again, you may get less people giving you info if you don't... it's a hard balance...

Katy44 · 31/05/2007 10:46

I'd want to just download it. You haven't said anything about sending follow up emails, people might not like it, and you'd need to provide an unsubscribe option. Maybe offer a mailing list option, although I'd probably prefer to email you directly, assuming you'd reply.

RubberDuck · 31/05/2007 10:46

Something else I've noticed - I know you have a "Home" menu item, but it's also fairly standard practice to make the title bar/logo area clickable to take you back to the front page too.

Mercy · 31/05/2007 10:46

First page - should be specialises

Katymac · 31/05/2007 10:55

Love Photo & red quotes

nannynick · 31/05/2007 11:00

Have tried a new colour scheme... how does Blue work for you? Is this better than Red?

OP posts:
nannynick · 31/05/2007 11:03

Rubberduck - logo is clickable, but not when on the index/home page, as that would result in the same page being displayed. Should it still be clickable on the home page?
