Hi am doing my tax return for this year can I claim car insurance and MOT? I claim back 40p a mile for the miles I do and wasn't sure if I could claim this as well.

No - car insurance and MOT are included in the mileage element. You could instead claim all actual costs but that depedns on whetehr you have kept petrol receipts etc. You can either claim the mileage rate or the actual costs but not both. (Though I suppose for completeness I should state that I have seen arrangements where claims are made for all actual costs plus an element for petrol based on mileage (eg 12p per mile).
