I need to get an Au pair, never done it before , haven't got a clue, those with experience please advise!!

I need to have an AU Pair start from september. I've not ever been down this route before and haven't got a clue. I don't just want to trawl through lists. I need advice on how much to pay them, what to provide for them etc. Pitfalls. I would need one to be a second pair of hands for me really and wrok along side me rather than being left with them for long periods. Thanks

Hi I found my AP through placing an advert on Gumtree. I pay her £65 per week and she works 25 hrs per week. She mainly helps with the boys (3+5) does the odd school run and light housework, I wouldn't be without her. Her cousin is looking for a family (as I keep posting) If you want more info let me know.

Oh God, it's a minefield. When it works, it's terrific having an au pair, but you have to be prepared that it doesn't always work out. (Have had 4 au pairs. One was marvellous, the other three were in varying degrees pretty awful.) Definitely go through an agency (Sunny smiles is our local one) as they can find you another one if it all goes wrong.
