One for fathers day

Walk a little slower daddy
said the child so small
I?m following your example,
and I don?t want to fall?

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they are hard to see
So walk a little slower daddy
For you are leading me

Someday when I?m all grown up
You?re what I want to be
Then I will have a little child
Who?ll want to follow me

And I want to lead just right
And I know that I was true
So walk a little slower Daddy
For I must follow you

And Mothers day

To Mummy

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls
But every day I'm growing up
I'll be grown some day
And all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away
So here's a little handprint
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small

franyfroo · 03/05/2007 23:08

thanks. but more general, theres one ive seen about not making something everyday, doesnt mean the child has not learnt anything, still surfing, no luck though

Some houses try to hide the fact that children shelter there.
Ours boasts of it quite openly, the signs are everywhere.
For smears are on the windows, little smudges on the doors,
I should apologise, I guess, for the toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children, and we played and laughed and read,
and if the doorbell doesn't shine, their eyes will shine instead.
For when at times, I'm forced to choose the one job or the other...
I want to have a tidy house, but FIRST I'll be a mother.

I tried to teach my child from books,
He gave me only puzzled looks.
I tried to teach my child with words,
They passed by him often unheard.
Despairingly, I turned aside,
?How shall I teach this child?? I cried.
Into my hand he put the key,
?Come?, he said, ?and play with me.?

Does anyone know "It's Mine". Something along the lines of "If I touched it its mine, if I can see it its mine, if I had it yesterday its mine ..."

Toddler Property Laws

If I like it, it's mine
If it's in my hand, it's mine
If I can take it from you, it's mine
If I had it a little while ago, it's mine
If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way
If I'm doing something or building something, all the pieces are mine
If it looks like mine, it's mine
If I saw it fist, it's mine
If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine
If it's broken, it's yours

A Hundred Years

A hundred years from now......
it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in,
or the kind of car I drove.
But the world will be different
because I was important in the life of a child.

OFSTEDoutstanding · 04/05/2007 21:59

Ayla I loved the poem about the house being untidy because of spending time with the kids. I will copy it for my notice board at home if thats ok with you

AskABusyPerson · 05/05/2007 00:00

I love the first post - the fathers day one!
I also love the toddler property rules!

In my cloakroom I have a sign:

I hope that my child looking back on today
Remembers a mum who had time to play
Children grow up while you are not looking
There will be years ahead for cleaning and cooking
So quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

So every time I go to the toilet/wash dd or mindees hands I am reminded that there's no need for me to do any more housework than the necessary minimum and we go and have a reading session or craft session or play outside or dress up or sing songs etc etc!!!
I do however do lots of cooking but dd/mindees usually involved anyway!

There is one called something like A Child Learns what they Live. They have it up in DS's nursery and we used it at his Naming Ceremony. Goes along the lines of 'If a child lives with praise, they learn tolerance' or some such.

butterflywings · 05/05/2007 01:37

Sunyshineymummy:

Children Learn What They Live

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

We had this up in the nursery I worked at too

FAIR DINKUM

Dear White Fella
Coupla things you should know

When I born, I black
When I grow up, I black
When I go in the sun, I black
When I cold, I black
When I scared, I black
When I sick, I black
And when I die
I still black

You White Fella
When you born, you pink
When you grow up, you white
When you go in the sun, you red
When you cold, you blue
When you scared, you yellow
When you sick, you green
And when you die, you grey

And you have the cheek
To call me coloured!

Just found loads more from all the handouts I received at courses when I was working.
It's great 'cos I don't really want to go to sleep yet - DD's first night in a 'big girl's bed' and I want to be up in case she falls out (she probably won't now I've said that!)

Some of them might not be relevant to you, franyfroo, but I think it's nice to share them anyway

You Have To Be Deaf to Understand

What is it like to 'hear' a hand?
You have to be deaf to understand!

What is it like to be a small child
In a school, in a room void of sound -
With a teacher who talks and talks and talks;
And then when she does come around to you,
She expects you to know what she's said?
You have to be deaf to understand.

Or the teacher who thinks that to make you smart,
You must first learn how to talk with your voice:
So mumbo-jumbo with hands on your face
For hours and hours without patience or end,
Until out comes a faint resembling sound?
You have to be deaf to understand...

What is it like to comprehend
Some nimble fingers that paint the scene,
And make you smile and feel serene
With the 'spoken word' of the movig hand
That makes you part of the world at large?
You have to be deaf to understand.

What is it like to 'hear' a hand?
You have to be deaf to understand!

Safe Sets?

Every morning in assembly
Judith Jones is by my side,
Far away from weeping Wendy
Ever since the day she cried.

Then in Science I'm with Susan
Down in Art I paint with Paul
Mike and I make lovely music
When we're singing in the hall.

Peter is my little partner
When we're paired off in PE,
Craig and me go well together
Cutting card in CDT.

No-one sits by me in Reading
(Miss says I can't settle down)
I prefer it best in Drama,
When the whole class run around.

Fay's my friend when we are Writing -
Just because we can't do double,
Usually we end up fighting,
Then we get into awful trouble.

All our sets are in a folder
By the infant coats and hats,
So, when we are much, much older
We'll know where to sit our SATs.

Everybody's very pally
No-one has a chance to moan:
Well there's one, his name is Ali -
He draws pictures, on his own.

The Smile Starter

Smiling makes you happy
When you are feeling blue.
When someone smiled at me today
I started smiling too;
I passed around the corner
And someone saw me grin
When he smiled I realised
I'd passed it on to him.
I thought a lot about that smile
And realised its worth
A simple little smile like mine
Could travel round the earth.
So, if you see a smile begin
Don't leave it undetected
Share that smile with everyone
Let no-one be neglected!

If this is not a place where tears are understood,
Where do I go to cry?
If this is not a place where my spirits can take flight,
Where do I go to fly?
If this is not a place where my questions can be asked,
Where do I go to seek?
If this is not a place where my feelings can be heard,
Where do I go to speak?
If this is not a place where you'll accept me as I am,
Where can I go to be?
If this is not a place where I can try to learn and grow,
Where can I just be me?

Babies are Angels that fly to the earth,
Their wings disappear at the time of their birth
One look in their eyes and we're never the same
They're part of us now and that part has a name
That part is your heart and a bond that won't sever
Our Babies are Angels, we love them forever.

HEAVEN'S NURSERY

In Heaven there must surely be
A special place, a nursery
Where ' little spirits ' not fully grown
Go to live in their Heavenly home.

butterflywings · 05/05/2007 03:08

To my dear child

Before you were conceived, I wanted you
Before you were born, I loved you
Before you were here an hour, I would die for you
This is the miracle of love.

Fat Is Not a Fairy Tale
Jane Yolen
I am thinking of a fairy tale,
Cinder Elephant,
Sleeping Tubby,
Snow Weight,
where the princess is not
anorexic, wasp-waisted,
flinging herself down the stairs.

I am thinking of a fairy tale,
Hansel and Great,
Repoundsel,
Bounty and the Beast,
where the beauty
has a pillowed breast,
and fingers plump as sausage.

I am thinking of a fairy tale
that is not yet written,
for a teller not yet born,
for a listener not yet conceived,
for a world not yet won,
where everything round is good:
the sun, wheels, cookies, and the princess.
