I am starting work in a few weeks full time and considering getting an au pair. I have a ds and dd of school age, husband works away during the week.

My daughter has a FAB male carer at her nursery. He's so great. If we decide to go for a nanny again sometime in the future, I would defo consider it.

thank you for that, it is my first full time job in 7 years, so I want to make sure the children are happy with whoever is lokking after them.

I can't see any why gender makes any difference.

As your dh is away quite a bit, having a man around the house may be good for your family.

I had a male aupair when I was little, and a female aupair - I remember the name of the male aupair, but not the female one... so I guess the male aupair made of an impression on me.

Interview aupairs of both genders and see which you and your children like best.

I recently two women who used male nannies and they raved about them. Both were women with football mad sons and husband who travelled a lot. They employed ex-rugby playing Aussie and the boys had a ball together.
