Both parents travel for work - options?

My DH may be changing job to one where he is away 3-4 days per week. I also travel, weekly day trips, sometimes overnights.

At the moment my DH is there when I am not - the future would involve us probably being out of the country at the same time.

What do people do in this circumstance? Live-in nanny? Overnight nanny? (emergency/temp?) Au pair with more adhoc schedule?

Our DC are 1 and 4

Would appreciate some suggestions and experiences!

A live-out nanny who is prepared to do the occasional overnight sounds like it may work. The more notice you have of when the overnight will be needed the better.

Live-in option would also work but do you really want someone living with you all the time?

Are you in a location where nannies typically work?

Thanks - yes based in London

How are overnights normally charged?

Most nannies charge up until they go to bed so their normal rate up until 10/11pm. Then an half over night fee (if the child sleeps through) so typically around £40/50 then their normal rate starts back up again from 6/7am whenever your children’s usual waking time is.

Career change for one/both of you? You'll be able to find childcare, live in nanny being the best option as your little one is too young for an au pair, but do you really want kids that young in the care of someone else overnight for what sounds like at least 1-2 days a week?

Funnily enough pigs, yup DH is now looking at another role. Doesn't look feasible him being on the road that much-
