Single parent teacher & parents eve

I’ve been working p/t since dd was born but now looking at full time jobs but feeling stressed due to the childcare situation.

I’m mainly worried about parents evenings because I’m in secondary education and would likely have five parents evenings every year.If I taught sixth form maybe more.

I also worry about dd getting ill, she’s only 4 and has had countless bugs and illnesses which has meant a few missed days at work in the past.

I’ve no family support,dm would gladly help but is way too poorly and I don’t have friends would would help in the evening or if she got very sick.I always thought I’d return to work full time but I’m now wondering if it’s worth finding a job where at least I could take flexi and not have parents evenings.

What do other single parents do?

Could you get a local babysitter op?

I could look into it,I’m a bit wary as a friend of mine had a bad experience.I wish I had family just for emergency situations to rely on.

I’m a childminder. The parents evening thing, what times are they? (Ours are 4-7) I would work those hours as a one off (or 5 times a year) to help you out.
The poorly child would be a no go for a childcare setting though sorry.

Thanks Maryann, just going off previous experience I seem to remember parents evenings lasting from between 5-8 or 9pm.Then there’s the travel home, I worked at a school a fair few miles away previously so I didn’t get home until nearly 10pm.

Some child-minders offer Baby sitting as well even to 10. The sickness is a fact of life being a parent hopefully if you Lo mixes now a lot of the common early bugs will be out of the way children get less bugs after a year or so in childcare. But every parent does get some times they have to be home to care for sick children.
