Paid childcare

Discuss everything related to paid childcare here, including childminders, nannies, nurseries and au pairs.

Can I be rude and ask the average hourly rate of a childminder please, if you were in the Glasgow area that would be great, and if you had vacancies over the summer, that would be even better!!!

Have you looked on the childcarelink website - put your postcode or area in and it will list childminders. Most should have prices against them.

I charge £3.80 ph but I'm in Berkshire.

Do you want me to ask my neighbour if she has any summer vacancies? Don't know what she charges now - was £3/hour when I last used her 18months ago. She also doesn't do pick-ups or drop-offs, so you'd have to get to Pollokshields. But she is very good!

It's gone up, so not sure now - I think it is now a whole £40/week, but it might have gone up to £50 for the summer (that includes the excursions - and they go all over the place). I'll check with dh tonight. They do say that they are one of the cheapest in the city - which is why they were under pressure to raise their prices.

I think I pay £3.50 an hour for my cm. Trying to think where you could use. We have a gingerbread in our school grounds that does school holidays as well as after school, but are too far from you. There must be something surely! Wish I was closer to you or I'd help out cos I am of course OFF

Are any of these nearby?

Do you know of any school leavers who might want a summer job watching dd? I did that when dd started school, as my cm was ill for a couple of weeks, with a girl who was about to go to uni and welcomed the dosh.

I don't think there are very many childminders in your area who post/read this board. Could be wrong, but that's the impression I get.

Have you tried looking on-line at typical pricing? ScottishChildcare.gov.uk lists childminders (and other childcare providers), and for some it provides details of cost. Doing a very basic search, typical pricing for a childminder in Glasgow seems to be around £3 to £4 per hour, per child.
