Hi guys. Have had to tell both the families I mind for today that I cannot havce their children as have been up sick all night. Both seemed quite p*ed off on phone, This is first time I have called in sick since I started with them and they only come for 2 hours after school today was just wondering what responses you all get when you tell your families you cant work?

I get varying reponses from different families I mind for ranging from sympathetic 'do you want anything getting from the shops' to ranting 'I can't believe you would do this to me'

I'm not off ill often either. Try not to let it bother you parents rely on us and if we are off it is an inconvenience for them (esp if no family support) but they will figure something out. If they are schoolies at least they don't need all day care finding for today.

Try to have a rest today and hopefully you will be right as rain tomorrow.

I used to have a CM - and I appreciated it when she told me she was sick and couldn't have LO's because I did not want them catching bug and being ill! can't beleive mindee's parents were so off with you!

Poor you, just ignore them! I'm afraid this can happen quite a lot but it shouldn't. I've only been off sick once in nearly 2 years of childminding but I have had to close twice due to ds being ill (not just a bit poorly). I did this thread a couple of weeks ago as was so angry. Try not to let it bother you and hope you feel better soon. x

Unfortunately some parents do not take this into consideration when choosing a childminder, they want the home from home care side of it but want you to be available 365 days of the year which cos you work alone is impossible.
As a mum myself I can understand how inconvenient it is when I as a childminder I have to have a day off cos I am ill (I have had 2 days off sick in 3 years) but we are only human afterall .

Don't worry about it, you can't please everyone all of the time.

if i'm ill i feel so guilty if i take a day off that i normally work and it takes twice aslong to get better

i had gout a couple of weeks ago and most parents were ok except for 2 who had taken the week off and didnt want their children there. even though i couldnt walk i went back after 2 days but my foot still hurts now
