CM Club: Question for Cardiff/Newport CMs

I am currently a CM in London but am considering moving back to Wales to be nearer to my family.

I have been VERY lucky with my mindees so far. They have just kind of fallen into my lap rather than having to look for them. I am a bit worried about moving to a smaller town and not being able to find any mindees!

Also, I'm sure this is on other threads but haven't checked yet, what is the average hourly rate?

TIA

Hi I'm in South Wales, not far from Newport. I've been on leave so have not checked in with MN, sorry if we Welsh lot seem rude LOL!!
I charge £3.50 per hour.
I've lived away and returned and love it here, i've been on the allotment all day.
i went to London at the week-end, though, and thought it was fab to be near all the galleries, theatres etc.

Thanks, I was thinking that Wales had left the forum!!

Do you have many mindees/enquiries? I have no idea how in-demand cm's are and couldn't get any info from the council website!

I have lived in London for 10 years except for the year I had my ds and I lived just outside Newport. I love it here but just feel life would be a little easier if I had my family for support.

Try the Ncma website for local contact nos for the area you are considering, they'll be able to tell you about the network etc. I'm not in a position to do much outside work as I am a carer as well, so I'm not part of the network.
This is a bit garbled sorry.I'll come on later when I can talk properly!!

I received the list of cms from Newport cis today and there are 116!! Although, there are only 3 in the village that I'm planning on moving to.

I'd still be interested to hear from any local cms as to whether it's been difficult to get mindees or whether you're swamped with enquiries.

Hi mogs0 - I'm not a CM, but the CM ds is with has enough enquiries to fill her places 3 times over ... she's full at the moment, and is already full for full-timers for the next 2 years!

We live in Penarth, and there is a real shortage of CMs - especially for drop-off and pick-up at the Welsh school - although the other CMs in the area are busy too.

I pay £32 a day at the moment for full-time care, and 1/2 price retainer for the holidays. From September, when DS goes to school full-time, I'll pay £5 an hour for before and after school care, but won't have to pay a retainer for the holidays. Will still pay £32 a day for INSET days.

HTH

Thanks, that's encouraging! I've been utterly spolit with mindees where I am at the moment but know a lot of others on MN are struggling to fill their places.

Hi
Sorry been away for a week.
I live in central Cardiff and charge £4 an hour, I am full and often get enquiries. I am on the Cardiff Network and all the girls on it are full at the moment.
Take care
Frankie
