experience of au pair agencies

Has anyone recruited via an agency - what was it like, how much did they charge etc?

From as far as I can gather its seems a bit pot luck which ever method you adopt (I have a sister in law who has been doing the AP bit for 8 years now) therefore I opted for the cheapest method I could find gumtree ad and thank goodness struck gold first try!
