No. I always used to work til 6.30 (although nearer 7pm with traffic!!) until mindee left in Feb. Atm I'm not working Friday's but will be after Easter, starting with 5.30 finishes but will change. I miss the money with mindee gone but I must say, it's been nice to have the day off AND not rush like mad if having a night out!!

What time do you usually finish?

princesscc · 30/03/2007 17:35

No love - i am still working! Still got one left til 6.30pm. It could have been 8.30pm! He's mum TEXT me to say would it be OK if she was two hours late! Funnily enough I said NO

princesscc · 30/03/2007 17:37

That looks quite bad doesn't it! Yes I'm still working, looking after other peoples children whilst on mn! it's OK, he's 8 and drawing a picture for mum.

saltire · 30/03/2007 17:40

I think it's just because i'm a bit pi**ed off. I'm tired, haven't slept right the past two nights. I've had no lunch so I'm starving.I have had mindee 2 till gone 6 every night for the past 4 weeks (instead of 5pm) because his dad has been away.
Today I have him and his siter, she usually goes to a different minder. She has talked non stop since she got here.
" can we do this, can we do that, when i'm at home i do this, my mum says this, my mum says that" My head is pounding, and

Thier dad got home from his 4 week course at 2pm and i thought, oh he'll come and get them early today. No, he has obviously decided not to bother

Oh you poor thing! I have nights like that. Yesterday mindee (11mths) was due to go home at 5.15pm. Mum was only 20 minutes late, but it was within those 20 minutes that teething pain kicked in and she screamed the house down! Thing is, you clock watch for the last hour and keep thinking 15min....10mins.....5mins and then when they don't go its heartbreaking.

I usually pour a glass of red wine at about 5.30 and put it on the window sill in the kitchen, then I shut the door on the last one of the week and head straight for it!

I love all my babies & kids to bits but the peace and the end of the day is bliss!

Its nearly over, push on through, I'm there with you!

saltire · 30/03/2007 18:16

Hurray, they hav eleft. I have texted DH and told him no way am i cooking tonight!

The wine is in the fridge cooling down and the boys are going to bed early with the promise of a DVD in bed

Many of us work later than 5.30 at other jobs. Our nanny is still here and I only finished a 90 minute business call.

Soapbox · 30/03/2007 18:28

Gosh what kind of jobs do people have that let them away to pick up children before 5.30 on a Friday?

princesscc · 30/03/2007 18:40

Ones that work local to where I live and use me as a childminder.

princesscc · 30/03/2007 18:58

Glad you're feeling better saltire. I understand!! I have a silent house atm, dh has gone down the pub for a couple of hours and dd has gone to a Heelies disco. All is good at Castle Princesscc! Have a good weekend!

NannyL · 30/03/2007 20:09

Only a nanny not a CM but im always there til 6pm (or 6.05 6.10 on a friday) Also on friday mummy boss works an extra long dau so i can garantee not to see her at all. Daddy boss (GP) is often working til surgary closing on friday so if hes going to be late its likely to be on a friday.... when i am DIEING to get away for the weeekend

i do leave early on tuesday mostly though.

I know im paid til 6, i expect to be there til 6 etc but today daddyboss finshed at 11am so i thought just maybe i might go at 5.45 or something....

maybe if i bathed the children earlier i would.... note to self, try that next time

Judy1234 · 30/03/2007 20:29

Well it did annoy me though that a nanny would think if I had got home early and I was there thinking I have exactly 30 minutes hen I'm not working and I don't have to look after my children that it might be assumed I'd want to take them straight over when I was counting the minutes I had "free".

Actually time in the house not working but with a nanny is very rare but I suppose what all those non working mothers who have full time nannies have all the time. It must be an interesting difference. So many people with nannies are used to as soon as they walk in the door at 6 or whatever the nanny goes.

NannyL · 30/03/2007 20:48

Xenia i dont know if that was aimed at me...

if so daddyboss finished work at 11am home by 11.30 am.... and went out to the supermarket at 5pm!

Of course he can he has every right to etc, after all they are paying me to be there etc etc etc

also as i said maybe if i had had a less busy afternoon, and stated tea / bath earlier just maybe i wiuld haveleft earlier.... as it was today they wernt in the bath til gone 5.40 and are often OUT of the bath by then!

In my old job as soon as mummy arrived home i was out the door within 5 mins cause thats what she wanted! Id leave mid washing up etc

Im not complaining btw i LOVE my job and my bosses!

saltire · 30/03/2007 21:09

soapy, i live on a married quarter patch. Didn't you know the RAF closes down at 4pm on a friday? often sooner!

Xenia, I was tired, i was hungry, i had a headache, and i wrongly assumed that a father who hadn't seen his 2 year old and 5 year old for four weeks would want to spend a bit of time with them. nothing wrong in me thinking it is there?

Saltire ignore her, she should try living inthe real world with real children,

well done love, hope you get better sleep tonight.

saltire · 30/03/2007 21:20

I was just about to email you, i hadn't seen you around for a few days. hows the FMS? have you been to your own GP yet?

I will ignore her, i come on the childminders board to moan now and again, I'm a childmidner, I have no one else to moan to!

Soapbox · 30/03/2007 21:20

Ahhh! That makes sense now Saltire!

And I agree about Dad - although maybe Mummy and Daddy were catching up - while the mice are away the cats will play

ShoshableEggEater · 30/03/2007 21:24

Hi Saltire, not seeing Gp till next thursday she wants to hear from the Rhuemy first, it hit home tonight took the DGd to see Charlottes web, dropped her home after and coming back home burst into tears, not somethinmg Im very prone to, but DH is still away, and suddenly felt very scared.

saltire · 30/03/2007 21:25

I just sent you a really quick email, because i'm getting food in a minute. Email me over the weekend if you need to. I'll check up on you at some point. When is DH back?

ShoshableEggEater · 30/03/2007 21:27

Wednesday should be for a month so that will help to. Thanks sweetie

emarie · 30/03/2007 21:39

I'm reading this really puzzled about what your expectations could be about when most people finish work. 5.30 is late for you? Most people don't have nine to five jobs anymore anyway and with any sort of commuting time I can't see how a parent could get to you any earlier than 6. I'm still in the office now, for what it's worth, getting a report out.

My nanny wanted to work 8 to 5 - which meant my day would have been 8 to 4 with commuting time. Ha! I wonder what sort of job that would be - let alone one that would allow me to pay a nanny £70+ tax per day.

It's not that I don't sympathise with you -everyone would like to finish early esp on a weekend. I just can't see how it would be at all realistic for a childminder.

Sorry but this is a bit of a sore point from a parent's point of view!

Katymac · 30/03/2007 21:43

Quite honestly I finish at 6pm too

I choose not to work later

Most Friday's my parents come reasonably on time 6.05-6.15

I normally just knuckle under & get on with it

But on the Friday before Christmas I got a phone call at 4pm....can I keep the children until 8pm

Umm no chance....not a hope in hell

& since then I have been a bit more assertive about closing times

But I do love it when they go early

LoveMyGirls · 30/03/2007 21:49

I finished at 12.45pm today and i'm a childminder so some parents are obviously able to work and make time to pick up their children before 6pm on a friday - not having a dig just saying.

SOSHA - You know I am around most of the time, feel free to moan and rant to me if you need to god knows you help me enough xxx

emarie · 30/03/2007 21:54

Must not live in London and have to deal with our lovely transport system.

Judy1234 · 30/03/2007 21:54

I wasn't trying to get at nannies. I think they are usually brilliant. I was just remembering how I'd sometimes rush home to be home before their leaving time so I might have 15 minutes to get changed, not have a child anywhere near me and time to check the day's post without 3 tiny people pulling at my skirt and sitting there thinking I've exactly 5 minutes left of this peace before I take over etc.
