OMG! spoke to my neighbour last night (who pretty much knows everyone where we live) and I mentioned I was going through the process of becoming a registered childminder and she said to watch out when I become registered as my door will get a battering as there are NO registered childminders around for miles!!!!

I was already quite excited from the big envelope with loads of stuff about childminding waiting for me when I got home from CIB - they are quick off the mark, I had only asked for it wednesday!

so while I am sooo busy @ work I thought I would take advantage of the computer and get to work on things like flyers and bits to put in my contract and making a list of stuff I am going to need but as always, I have another question.... what sort of discount (if any) do you give to siblings?
I was thinking of 25% to the mindee who stays the least hours or if they are both full time in the holidays 25% of 2nd child.
what do you think would be fair to discount if there is a 3rd sibling?!?!?!

Congratulations and I hope you enjoy every moment of childminding, I have been registered for 13 years now.
As for discount for siblings I only give it if they come for full days mon - fri. Some childminders don't give a discount as all children need the same amount of care, but it's up to you as you don't have other childminders near to you.

i offer a discount to siblings if they are both full time (ie 6-10 hrs mon-fri)

dont offer any discount to siblings that just attend before and after school

ThePrisoner · 29/03/2007 21:34

I don't do discounts for siblings at all. I'm a right meanie.

If you won't have any trouble filling your places, perhaps you don't need to offer a discount anyway?

LoveMyGirls · 29/03/2007 21:55

I dont and wouldnt offer discount if there isn't any competion.

soak · 30/03/2007 08:44

thanks for your replies! I think I might offer a slight discount if I have 2 siblings full time.
hopefully I will make the money back on offering a late night shopping slot on a thursday!

Why don't you wait and see who you get before deciding definitely to offer discounts? If you had an interested family, told them you charged the same hourly amount for each child, and they looked aghast - then you could think about making a reduction, and they will love you all the more.

I don't understand why you would offer a discount if you don't have to?? It's the sort of thing minders might do when there is lots of local competition, which you won't have.

thanks for that ThePrisoner - I never thought of that (too excited!) spent most of the weekend staring into my back garden thinking of what toys etc I could have in it...!

seem to be a lot more aware of the amount of children in the area
cant wait to get bits and bobs back from CIB with a date of intro session.
have already made a flyer ready to copy and post, handbook typed up and ideas I want to put into my t&c's !!!!
