CM Club: What OFSTED said - PLEASE READ..............................................

Well, I spoke to a LOVELY lady at OFSTED and asked her about this permission thing for mindees au pair (see other thread). She said it's fine if parents have given permission for her to give the word as that in itself is parental permission.

I asked for this in writing and explained about inspectors saying different things. She said this shouldn't happen as it's all down to what the standards say HOWEVER did say people can interpret them differently.

I mentioned that I'm in a BIG group of childminders on the internet, that it was a VERY popular website and that LOTS of people have had problems with OFSTED. I said (politely) that OFSTED are not childminders favourite people due to their lack of consistancy. I gave some examples and said this is a COUNTRY-WIDE problem.

She was lovely and said this is not on and that when I email them to get confirmation in writing, I should mention all this and that's why I want it in writing as I'm worried one inspector could down grade me due to THEIR opinion!

I said I may well get all these childminders to send an email in, she actually said this would be a good idea!!!

SOOOOOOOO, for all of those who are fed up with OFSTED and the way they work differently, please please please send an email to: [email protected]

I will add to my list how AWFUL it was when I moved house due to their lack of consistency.

Cheers

TP - you better write in!!!

looney you saint, they will now get flooded with enquiries

looneytune · 22/03/2007 15:07

Not a saint, just fed up with OFSTED. I've got nothing to hide, I know I'm a good childminder BUT all this paperwork C**P being more important than the care itself and the inconsistancy is really ANNOYING ME!!! (sorry, feeling a bit hormonal! )

PLEASE PLEASE email them. I don't even mind setting up a standard email, posting it on here and everyone can copy and paste it. Doesn't matter about the wording, it's seeing how many childminders are fed up that's important. I wonder if NCMA would get involved??? or am I really going off on one now???

Well thought I would try a Ofsted fun call, about the on going will my 4 year olds be 5 in September or still 4 as the school is only taking them mornings until January.

A VERY nice man called Alan told me, no they would be 4, so wrote off for a variation, then got a message left that he gave me the wrong info look at Standard blah blah blah DID HE NOT THINK I ALREADY HAD.

So decided to send for variation anyway, either they will give me it as two 4 year olds, or tell me they are 5!!

looneytune · 22/03/2007 17:23

They really need to sort themselves out don't they!!! I'd say they are still under 5's until they are there mornings and afternoons. Good luck with the variation!

I'm going to do a whole new thread about the changes re: the new foundation stage. Should be a fun topic!!

SHOSHAlee, have had variations for the last 3 autumn terms as they don't count as 5 year old unless they are 5 or they attend all day. Just written off for my 4th, fingers crossed for us both.

SHOSHAlee · 22/03/2007 18:50

thanks ayla had variation befoe so hopefully will get it, other midees will be 18months and 2.5 by then as well

PinkChick · 22/03/2007 19:59

well, I am awaiting my letter of reply from Shirley Harper, Chief/boss whatever from Bristol division regarding my c**p inspection, then I shall join email list. Things only get changed if there is mass protest..even David Bell would be better to forward our complaints to after all it's his signature at the bottom of our certificates! (wink)

looneytune · 23/03/2007 12:31

Oh do let us know what happens with that!!! Must dash to nursery now...

David is no more... Christine Gilbert CBE is the current Her Majesty's Chief Inspector.

However Mr Dorian Bradley is the Early Years director, so he may be the better person to write to.

SHOSHAlee, my view is that if a 4 year old is attending school part-time, then they are still aged 4 for ratio purposes. My view is that a 4 year old attending 10 educational sessions (in any setting, not just in school) is a 5 year old for ratio purposes - this is how I read the National Standard and Guidance. Would be lovely if Ofsted would clarify this one, plus a lot of other things (don't get me started on Childminders moving house ).

looneytune · 24/03/2007 19:58

Cheers Nannynick!

Oh, and I totally understand how you feel on the subject of moving house!! Don't worry, I fully intend to make a big deal out of THAT one!!!!
