This is going to be a moan I am afraid...

Have just had a call from a really nice lady who wanted care for her son blah blah blah!

But she seems to be under the impression that a childminder will be at ther beck and call, I can have her son whenever she wants me to, that I have NO other children to work around and she wants to pay me little more than nothing!

I told her that maybe she needs a nanny!!

i had a parent call this morning wanting care for her child
she said "so what is it that you childminders do are you quilfied teathers" err no
i still think that in this day and age alot of parents have no ideas what a childminder is or does

ayla99 · 16/03/2007 13:18

You're right dmo. And the ones that have an idea, have wildly different ones.

From time to time I find myself saying "I'm sorry I don't think my service is quite what you're looking for". Such as the lady who expected me to stay indoors all day as she was worried about the weather. And the chap who wanted a discount for the time his child napped. Actually I laughed first. Then realised he was quite serious!!

ayla99 · 16/03/2007 13:20

Oh that wasn't very clear - of course she wasn't worried about me being outside; she wanted me to look after her baby without taking him outside. EVER.

Booh · 16/03/2007 13:27

Oh yeah I have had that too!

One mum didn't want me to take them in the car! And as I have to drive everywhere I was a bit

discount while they sleep thats a new one

JennaJ · 16/03/2007 13:36

Another classic is.....

Mum who is insistent that child eats a 2 course hot dinner (pref organic)at 5pm but expects you somehow to cook this dinner while taking to the park and doing craft activities and offering one to one attention with 5 children to look after...and then complains when you don't manage all four things in the 1.5 hours you have after school!!

Gives me a giggle..

smeeinit · 16/03/2007 13:58

ive actually had a parent ask if i charge while the l o sleeps?!
no,of course i dont charge,i go down the pub for a large g and t while the kiddies sleep!!!

dmo · 16/03/2007 14:00

whatever next? asking if you can make sure their child doesnt sleep!!!

smeeinit · 16/03/2007 14:02

oh yeah the "dont let them sleeep" parents!!
so easy to keep a child awake, particually when you have been out for a long day and the child is in the back of the car nodding off and im driving,i mean what can i do?!! pull over every 3 minutes to prod the poor child!

dmo · 16/03/2007 14:26

of course you should
never let a tried child sleep esp if your being paid

maggi · 16/03/2007 17:18

I had a parent ask if I charged when she decided not to turn up because she was self employed and she didn't get paid if she wasn't working.!!
Needless to say she hated it when I pointed out the obvious fact that I was self employed too.
