We are moving to the south coast of England soon, and i want to make a start on my registration. I have been a CM for 4 1/2 years here in Scotland, but i know that counts for nothing as I will have to start from scratch again. I had a look on the OFSTED site last night but couldn't find any info, how do i go about getting registered in England? I thought if i started now it would help as it took 9 months to get registered when i moved up here

Whereabouts are you moving to in the South of England? Want you need to do is to contract the Early Years Department (probably through CIS) for the county/unitary authority you are moving to & explain what is happening. They should be able to send you all the application forms needed for Ofsted & advise you re briefing sessions ICP etc. If it is West Sussex ring 01243 777807 which is the CIS in Chichester, they are very helpful.

No it's Portsmouth/Hampshire area

Portsmouth is its own unitary authority, so depending exactly on where you will be moving to, will decide on who to contact.
You could also try the NCMA Regional Office in Basingstoke as someone there should have a good idea of who to contact for those two areas. The number is 01256300720.

If you go on www.childcarelink.gov.uk and put postcode or area you are moving to, it usually gives that local CIS number.

Good luck

yep, go to site looneytune has just posted and ring the local number to find out mroe or email them, theyll tell you all you need to know..good luck.
have you said anything to the parents yet?

saltire · 02/03/2007 16:34

Welli tried the childcare link number, and asked their advice. This what they said

"You need to contact the NCMA, who will advise you. Thye will let you know what you need to do, we can't help you"

So I contacted the NCMA regional office that badgerhead posted. This what they said

"Oh all you need to do is copntact OFSTED and tell them that you are already registered and they will transer it across"

So, by this point totally confused, I called OFSTED. After being on hold while the man on the other end checked for me

"First of all you need to contact the CIS in the area you are moving too. Tell them it is a new registration and they will send you the relevant forms. You were given the wrong information by NCMA when they told you that all you needed to was to transfer your registration across (I knew this, i was just wanting to know where to start) and it's bad that the organisation which helps Childminders can give out wrong information like that"

oh lord, what a bloody nightmare!
try cis again, ask to speak to someone dealing with cm registrations and hopefully theyll be more helpful

How about e-mailing CIS. If moving to central Portsmouth, try [email protected]

Tell them that you will be moving to the area shortly and require a Childminder Application Pack. Perhaps best not to mention that you are already a childminder - that may be confusing them! Once you have the pack, you can then complete it and add accompanying information, so that Ofsted are aware that you were registered with the Care Commission and thus if any records are transferable, then they can transfer those (though as you say, doubt any are transferable) - but hey never know it may speed up the registration process a little.
