Does anyone else do this?

I am trying to write my written knowledge and its taking me ages, don't know if I am writing too much or just getting impatient!?
How much do you write for these?
I am trying to finish Unit 301 as I am way behind schedule! Just never seem to get time to do NVQ work at the mo! My ds is at his nanna's so I can get on, got through seven of them so far this aft.

DH and 2 of my staff are just starting they have been to 2 weeks classes

We haven't really started with the work yet

mummydear · 12/02/2007 18:22

Just started this in January so only really getting into doing the modules.

KaySamuels · 12/02/2007 18:55

Oh it's driving me crackers, my next written knowledge is "Why is it important to listen to children?" Feel so frustrated I have to write this down!!!

It's so tedious, also why do I have to write this down can't my assessor just ask me it!? I started this in September, am still on first unit and have had two visits from my assessor , do you think this should be more, seems a pretty low amount to me?

I have just finished my NVQ (the old one)

It does get faster as you go through

nearlyemptynester · 12/02/2007 19:05

Hi there, new poster on MN, but I am doing an NVQ3 for Teaching Assistants and found it mind boggling at first , but its getting better all the time , I believe it depends on your tutors and assesor - I really have to be disciplined about getting down to work though!!(wink)

Lazylou · 12/02/2007 19:07

When I did mine (the old one also) I had assessments every month and went to college once a month but my assessor was lovely and if I was stuck, I could ring her at home and she would help, or if I had lots to do, she would come to my house and help me.

Guess it depends on who you go with to do it.

charmedhay · 12/02/2007 19:11

started mine in september you seem to be moving faster then me i have only down one unit and have seen assesor just once for health and safety check !!!!!!!!!! I thought it was moving slowly !!!!!!!!!

Lazylou · 12/02/2007 19:13

And I agree that it does go quicker, the more into it you get. Just stay positive!

KaySamuels · 12/02/2007 19:13

There is a weekly optional workshop at the college but I work when it is on, so have never got to it. I know what you mean nearlyemptynester!!
Think I will try to get hold of my assessor and arrange a time to see her.

Yes I am sure I am meant to have an assessment each month! Hope the ball starts rolling along soon! LOL! At least I am not the only one struggling along with it!

If you need any help, KS I have been lent some really useful books- easier to work from than the internet and I'm sure the two courses have overlap sections.

mummydear · 12/02/2007 20:05

Just out of interest ladies what books have you got that you find useful - besides the Tassoni/Bulman one for the course .

KaySamuels · 12/02/2007 20:14

Yes I'm a book girl myself nearlyempty, if you let me know ttles and authors can have a look in college library.

My new NVQ text book is proving the most useful as its directly linked to the knowldege I am doing. Went out and bought that one and it's been worth it. That's by good old Tassoni . Also old NVQ3 Early Years Care and Education is good (also Tassoni!) Do you think she sleeps

I also have Early Years Childcare and Education Key Issues 2nd Edition (by M O'Hagan) thats quite handy.

Got a childminding text book for the cert in childminding practice out of curiosity but its so basic, probably good if you just started tho.

Sorry for delay - just had supper! I have been lent - Babies + Young Children Book 1 - development 0-7 years - marian Beaver / Jo Brewster+ Child Care + Education Tina bruce + Carolyn Meggitt. I think its better have a few different books and then pick the best out of all of them!!

SueBrom · 12/02/2007 22:35

I have just started course in Jan and I am looking for some text books for sale. Anyone got any that are now propping open doors etc?
P.S.I am finding it slow, it took us 3 weeks just to enrol!

mummydear · 13/02/2007 10:22

Same here SueBrom - one night a week at college but it took us nearly three weeks to do enrolment and be shown round .

Besides the Tassoni one we have also been recommended by our tutors the follwoing :

Child Development - An ilustarted guide ( 2nd Edition) Carolyn Meggitt published by Heineman.

mummydear · 13/02/2007 10:23

Sue - you might find some books on ebay.

SueBrom · 13/02/2007 22:35

e-bay scares me. I am worried that I will pay reasonable amount for books but a fortune in P&P. Has anyone tried second hand bit of Amazon? I was told about it today. Any scare stories?
