Advice please- thinking of changing from nursery to a childminder

Hi everyone,

Just wanted your opinions/advice please! My DS is 22 months old, and I have another on the way, due in July. I hope to return to work early 2008 (yes ages away!) part-time and considering moving to a childminder. DS is quite a quiet child and loves being in a home environment, and I think the toddler room in nursery doesn't necessarily suit him that well (he's in 4 days a week), and I worry about it as sometimes he doesn't seem happy there. He's been at nursery since he was 7 months old but we moved a few months ago to a new area and he started a new nursery which took a while for him to adjust to. I don't want to keep changing his daycare but I won't be working as much and I think the potential flexibility of a childminder and the home environment might suit him & LO yet to be born better (& make me feel happier).... I hoping to go back 2 dasy or 3-4 mornings a week.

By the way the reason we chose a nursery first was based on a local recommendation where we used to live.

Thanks! xx

i have worked in a nursery and am now a childminder. I think when the children are young that they need that more 1 to 1 that they get from a minder . No one can tell you what is best but i have helped bring up alot of happy healthy children in my home . I am pleased that the parents also feel relaxed knowing their children r in safe hands nicole x

Nicole- thanks for you message

We live in Portstewart, Northern Ireland... I have met a few local mums through toddler group and also have a good friend who may know some local childminders...I think I will start making enquiries as think it will suit us better as a family... But want to make sure we make the right decision as don't want to keep moving DS. It's very hard working out what to do when I'm not sure what hours etc. I will be working next year, but enquiries won't do any harm!

Thank you xx
