what sort of policy do you need?!
i dont think you have to inform ofsted if you get a pet but would inform cis that you have a g,pig so they can put on your ad.

U dont need a policy for a guinea pig! Where u keeping it>?
I have rabbits and a dog and do not have an individual policy for them-i cover them under the safety policy

I've been told that all pets need to be covered by a pet policy, and anything kept in an area used by mindees must be informed to ofsted... eg hamster in own kids room no probs, but guinea pig in registered garden yes.

They also said pets out of registered area should still be mentioned on policy due to allergies

My animal policy states about feeding, hand washing and everything, and I complete and get parents to sign a form saying that there is no known allergy to pet and they have no objections to children interacting with them providing appropriate health and safety measures are taken.
When Ofsted visited me for initial inspection I forgot to mention goldfish (only have two of them in a small tank in kitchen) but she noticed them and said they need to be aware of all pets.

god what will ofsted want next?! a policy for our own children and where they will be kept! or how about a policy to state how we word our policies?!!

mykidzrmyworld · 06/02/2007 17:11

I seem to have hundreds of policys - silly mad things which seem to be over the top.
I havent been told I need to in Wales but suppose I will do one ready for my next inspection!

Right then ... so now I need a policy for a hand-reared hedgehog that still hangs around in our garden then (seriously). What if the horrid cat from two doors away comes into my registered garden??? Yikes! And we have a big problem with wild snails that sneak onto the patio at night. I will be contacting Ofsted for advice.
